Heatmiser "Blackout"

Uploaded by: BVMGrungeTV
Video Description:
The Portland, OR, band Heatmiser was best known for launching the career of singer/songwriter Elliott Smith, but other members of the group went on to have successful music careers long after Heatmiser's demise. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Neil Gust went on to form the pop/rock band No. 2, while bassist Sam Coomes formed the popular indie pop duo Quasi with his then-wife, Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss. Drummer Tony Lash, who produced some of Heatmiser's material, went on to do production work with a variety of artists, including the Dandy Warhols, Death Cab for Cutie, and the Minders.

Ok, where the heck have I been? I've loved Elliott Smith all this time but never listened to Heatmiser. Holy crap -- these guys were effing great. This is a fantastic song! And how the hell did this music fall by the wayside? There's nothing out there this cool now.
Holy shit ( 2 months ago by buttfucck)

What is PDX? ... ( 2 months ago by 95cooks)
What is PDX? Portland? I'm thinking of going out there just to visit where Elliott lived -it is such a shame he's not around. I just emailed Neil Gust because he works just 5 blocks from where I live. I'd like to talk to him about Elliott, but I have a feeling that's all behind him. He told me he doesn't even play music or write anymore.

Oh jeez. I love Heatmiser but was too young (and too far away) to ever see them play. I'm really glad this video exists!

OK, this is not ... ( 1 month ago by tutani)
OK, this is not Elliott Smith singing mate, it's Neil Gust, the other singer of Heatmiser. Elliott just plays guitar in this song, although he did sing in many other songs of the band.
No, thats Elliott ... ( 1 month ago by waywardproject)

Can I please ask you Mr Lash; do you write these days, or are you involved in any music projects? Love your style on the Heatmiser albums, only found your music a few years ago, but those songs mean so much to me.
no way dude this is ... ( 1 month ago by tutani)
no way dude this is not Elliott. I own every album of him and Heatmiser I'm 110% this song (Blackout) is sung by Neil Gust.
They show Elliott ... ( 1 month ago by Flipperdoodles)
They show Elliott singing it. Its pretty easy to tell if you listen to that right before you listen to an obvious Neil song. Otherwise, I don't blame you for the mix up cause it can be a tad confusing.
Wow. It actually is ... ( 1 month ago by tutani)
Wow. It actually is Elliott. Guys, I'm so sorry and I can't believe it.. Now I love him even more because this is my favorite Heatmiser-song. But seriously there's such a big difference between this voice and his usual voice. And Gust sounds more like this. Thanks, I'm actually really happy to realise it.
hey WhiteNacho. ... ( 1 month ago by tutani)
hey WhiteNacho. This actually really is Elliott singing...
I'm sorry I was so sure it was Neil Gust, who sang in many of the band's voice.
....who sang in ... ( 1 month ago by tutani)
....who sang in many of the band's songs* =D
This is obviously ... ( 1 month ago by wierdpointlessname)
This is obviously ELlliott singing, i own all of them to Elliotts voice sounds more strained, Neils is lower and more stable, not that i don't love the way he sings these songs, but he definitly has more trouble with it, but he pulls it off, my point is that it's him, 100% guarantee, it shows him singing, and it sounds nothing like gust. Anyways, Great song Great Video, Great album, Great Band
