NEW YORK CITY BUS OPERATORS BREAKING ENVIRONMENTAL LAW
Uploaded by: cityslam1
Video Description:
New York City MTA bus operators idling buses for extended periods (over 3 minutes)are in violation of federal environmental laws. 50 or more of the B47 line buses make rounds, terminating the route and idling along Avenue U at Kings Plaza, day and night. The buses saturate the air with diesel byproducts and other cancer causing agents. Additionally, the noise of the idling engines are extremely loud and annoying. This is a constant problem as one bus departs, another bus parks and idles, totalling more than 200 incidents a day. Not every operator is an inconsiderate and selfish environmental menace. An equal amount of operators simply shut the bus down and restart when the next round begins.
The MTA is in denial of the allegations and disregards complaints regarding the fumes and noise. This clip is just one of the many that will appear on the Web to expose and assist in improving the Quality of Life in the residential area adjacent Kings Plaza Shopping Center. The drivers must be disciplined and fined in accordance with City, State and Federal law. This will put a halt to the operators illegal and unethical activity. The MTA website refers to a code of ethics. While I did not review the code of ethics, I think that this sums it all up.
Before the state and city reaches into the pockets of taxpayers to fund Million Trees NY and charges drivers for congestion, it would be wise for the city to try to alleviate the air quality problems right at the root. In this case, dealing with the MTA, which is a state operated agency.
The bus in this clip is #9445 and idled for eleven minutes. These operators are repeat offenders and show no concern for the environment. The clip was shortened to allow for upload. Many more idling buses to come including Atlantic City buses that idle for an hour and a half, daily. Complaints are intentionally misdirected and go on unanswered as Atlantic Express and Coach USA have strong political ties.
Which slippery politician(s) take the credit for "permissive pollution"??? Inquiring minds would love to find out.

Precisely the point. Part of the blame should apply to the MTA for denial, lack of enforcement, and the fact that the MTA routed those buses to rest along side a residential area.

Buses at the Memphis International Airport have to constantly drive around all night most of the time without picking anyone maybe 5 of 6 people in a 3 hour period.I Know that the Long-Term Shuttle may not see a rider for 3 to 4 hours. But the drivers still have to move the buses every 7 minutes,3.2 miles to the employee parking lot(120 miles on 3rd shift alone)instead of waiting until someone comes out to a bus stop.If they don't,they will get fired!!!Isn't that a waste of fuel?

The "second" worst thing about it is that the MTA just received the approval to raise fares so the riders are picking up the tab on the wasted fuel. The system is truly screwed up!

Lemme get this shit into your ignorant, hybrid-lovin' ass head of yours: I live right nearby East NY Bus Depot, and there's a reasoning as to why buses NEED to idle for HOURS. In cold weather, oils and other engine fluids turn into frozen jelly, causing for tons of breakdowns. Same with all engine-powered devices. Do we all give a shit about pollution? No. Your POV is polluting the air, that's for sure. Even Hybrid vehicles smoke more than the weedheads in Cali.

What u are saying ... ( 10 months ago by dmcr9525)
What u are saying is somewhat incorect. No bus needs to idle for HOURS. My brother is an Operator out of ENY and most busses CAN be turned off because they will only sit for an AVERAGE of 30 minutes. Therefore they dont have time for anything to freeze! NYC has one of the highest rates of asthma cases in the country due to pollution from diesel fumes, so turning the buses off for a few minutes reduces pollution drastically.

With all respect, Police officers are out there on foot freezing all day or night, which ever shift it is. It's not my problem. The MTA needs to figure out where to put these buses so that they stop breaking environmental laws. The MTA is not exempt. New Yorkers didnt need the Governor to raise the cost of motor vehicle inspections due to emission control. If the MTA or other public agency is exempt, then it's clear that its all a scam.
