You disappoint me in not seeing that again it was the British hand behind the coup of 1979 that overthrow the Shah by using the people to do the dirty work. That's not enough you can't swallow whatever is out there and call it the truth and call yourself a true academic, BECAUSE we don't live in an UNBIASED world free of propaganda! From the time of Alexander maybe even before, the history of Iran was always written by the victor. There were occassional heroes like Ferdowsi that stood against the tide of lies and woke people and saved the culture, but people like that are fewer than you can believe. It is really beautiful to see these Iranian Jews so desperately trying to make any sense of the Britons having been involved in the Islamic revolution which ignited one January of 1978 in the holy city of Qom.
They will use all means of deception to try to turn a spiritual ideal whose time had to come, into one of their own ways of intervening history, to always attempt to castrate the possibility of Iranians to feel proud about having obtained self-determination.

I call on people to rely on what many other people and organizations are reporting not just you. I'm sure you had a great visit to Iran, but so what? That doesn't mean abuses aren't taking place. You are relying on your own anecdotal evidence and ignoring what other Iranians and organizations have to say. You don't even have to rely on these institutions to realize Iran has some problems. For example, the Iranian constitution doesn't recognize the freedom of the irreligious or Bahai.

I would say my agenda isn't arrogant at all. I simply want to see justice in Iran and that means women, gays, the irreligious, the Bahai, political dissidents, and journalists (heck all the Iranians for that matter) are given the rights accorded to them by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. You seem to believe that there is a massive conspiracy headed by almost every major human rights organization and some Iranians to make Iran look bad. Excuse me if I find this hard to believe.

If the Iranian culture involves not extending rights to the irreligious, the Bahai, gays, etc. then no I will not tolerate it. I realize the west isn't perfect and never has been, but I'm uninterested in listening to one more person claim that it is basically the source of all the world's ills. The human rights abusers or their defenders always seem to claim that the reporting of abuses is propaganda, but sadly many times this isn't the case.

I think you have some misunderstandings regarding my position on Iran. I'm not calling for a war with Iran and I don't doubt that many Iranians are good people. I mean no matter where you go you are going to find upright individuals. I also don't blindly believe that whatever the U.S. government or UN does is gospel. I believe a great deal of US or western politicians are corrupt and/or inept, but I think this would also apply to politicians almost everywhere including Iran.

Bush is a prime example of inept and most likely corrupt leadership in the U.S. and the UN's failure to firmly act on a crisis like the one in Darfur points to one of its weaknesses. The UNHRC has also limited freedom of speech by allowing only religious scholars to discuss issues involving religion on the floor. That being said I do believe that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is superior to say the Cairo Declaration of Human rights.

The Iranian revolution was not the result of 5 to 6 Iranian Shia Muslim Priests. There were a lot of people who were secular that wanted to abolish the dictatorial blood thirsty rule of the evil Pahlavi dynasty. To tell you the truth, their name wasn't even Pahlavi. Reza Mir Panj became Reza Khan became Reza Shah became Reza Pahlavi. This guy who came to power in 1925 had a multiple personality disorder.

your answer doesn't address my problem. if you want me (as an atheis) to live under a law coming from somebody's belief and you think it is ok, then i would say that it should be ok that the muslem force their idea to people. muslems are not the only extreme in the world. throughout the histry anytimes that people forced their belief to others you could see the extemism. also i don't care the the population of my country shrinks. whats wrong with that?
