*** EXAM UPDATE ***
I was convinced my performance was so bad (my pedalling was appalling) that I wouldn't even get a merit but I actually managed a distinction :-)
I got 26 on this. Examiners comments were "Again, balance was a strength & the rhythmic momentum was captured at this well chosen tempo. Some of the L.H. work could have been delivered with greater clarity & you slightly over-used the pedal in places but much was accurate & stylistic"

This is a practice session for one of my 2007-08 Grade 6 exam pieces (apologies for the error at 1:11 as I should have brought the tempo back up to speed but didn't)

That was an excellent performance! :) It sounds really hard for Grade 6.
Can't wait to hear your Grade 7 pieces!
Do you know what list A or C piece you are doing? I hope I'm not being too nosey.

Not sure if your question re A & C pieces was for grade 6 or 7?? For grade 6 I did A = Sonata in F and C = Rumba Tocatta and for grade 7 i'm not 100% about list A yet and C) Willie Wagglesticks Walkabout! x

Sorry! I should have been more specific. Willy Wagglestick's Walkabout is loads of fun! :) I was going to learn it for my Grade 7 but then switched to The Little Shepherd. Good luck in choosing your list A piece! :)

This sounds so lovely, I think I might switch from Moment Musical to do this. I discovered this morning that I scraped a distinction in Grade 5 (I got 130).
It's odd, because I keep forgetting the C# in the first section, seeing as how C# is in the name of the key!

Heller was very much a Romantic period musician, I think. I've seen another one of his preludes in a different grade (4, I seem to remember). That was in C Major though.

this song is so hard... but it songs so goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood. u play really good! are you in grade six in piano??? How do you manage to learn all these songs??? it's so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard.

i reckon the metronome marking is wrong in the ABRSM because i play this at actual prelude speed and it sounds 10x better and more like an actual prelude

I really wanted to play this for the exam but I just couldn't get up to tempo... you don't seem to go as fast as the book marks (not that that's a bad thing... I think it sounds better slower personally)... did they not comment on that, then? I almost regret choosing the Suk, although that is also a lovely piece.

I think the best thing to do would be to slow down your practice to a tempo where you successfully hit the C# and then gradually build up the tempo bit by bit - hope that helps :-)

well i listened to this piece on imeem and the original tempo was really nice. but i personally think if it's played in a slower tempo, it will still sound nice.

I'm going for grade 6 in a few weeks, and your videos have really helped me. I'm not too far from where you are at in the video, but I'm still struggling with the right hand thirds in the second page. I noticed you slowed them right down at about the end, which worked great stylistically, so I'm going to try that for that part also, because I'm having difficulty with the last set where the left hand starts playing those F sharp and G sharp octaves. Thanks a lot, and well done on your exam score.
