i disagree. if we use renewable energy resources such as wind and solar to create our electricity... we dont have to waste our worlds depleting water supply. watch "who killed the electric car" on youtube. hydrogen is on the way to becoming another commodity. bush, the big auto manufacturers, and even oil companies are pushing for hydrogen. all electric is ultimate.

According oil tycoon T.Boone Pickens we've ALREADY peaked at 85 millions barrels a day. That's why he's switched to alternate souces- wind & natural gas.
Oil the "fossil fuel" it's done. Gone the way of the the wagon, telegraph and cotton gin. New technology is the way. There is just no logical reason to continue with oil.

1st water does not deplete ,EVER !
It is our most abundant resorse
2/3 of the planets surface is water .
wind / solar ?? What are we suposed 2 do on calm ,cloudy/smoggy days ?
Hydrogen will never take off as a major commodity (4 cars ) because the technology exists 4 a car 2 go 100 km on a glass of water ,.The car creates its own fuel through hydrogen / oxygen separation

If you're refering to water electrolysis, electric energy is needed to split HHO and because it is not a very efficient process you don't recover all the energy back. Better to you use the energy directly to spin the motor.

exactly. water electrolysis is very inefficient in terms of energy production, and its still an issue of using a fuel vs using straight energy. switching to a billion cars using water as fuel will definately have an impact on our water situation. meanwhile, california's PG&E's energy plants are the cleanest in the nation, emitting only 1% of emissions from its grid as of 2007 - and getting better. we hope to see other energy companies to follow suit.

according to PG&E's website, they have 23% non-emitting nuclear energy generation, 13% hydroelectric, 12% renewable (wind, solar, etc), 47% Natural Gas, and only 4% coal and 1% fossil fuels. electric is the way of the future. it will take years and LOTS of money to convert our economy into a hydrogen economy, whereas the electric technology is here and viable today.

Yes , but so long as we need to keep recharging our batteries ,fossil fuels are going to be used till depleated .Which means (in the end ) us all going nuclear .(not safe)
Petrol (gas) is not very efficient either
because a certain amount has to be used to recharge the battery .So we use bigger engines and more fuel . It is also so true 4 the electolysis engine .But what come out of the exhaust ?

you are right on azngenuwine, not to mention that with hydrogen we would get to stay in bondage to the gas station and combustion engine auto makers. Where as electric motors are very simple reliable and eeeeaaasssyyy to repair. I can only speak for myself, but I want is whats best for the common many, not the rich elite few.

exactly. fewer moving parts vs thousands with a gas or hydrogen i.c.e. and to pathagoras101 regarding your question. there IS no exaust in an electric car. with a hydrogen car, do you see how water dripping out of EVERYONE'S exhaust in NYC and LA can adversely affect driving conditions on a hot day? no bueno. =)
