Brooke, 26, uses prescription pain killers to control her early onset of rheumatoid arthritis. it doesnt matter if you take exactly what your prescribed because its still opiates and the body will be dependant on it once you take it on a everyday basis. its not her fault she is addicted everyones all mad at her. pain is pain, any human dont want to feel pain.

Instead of finding out the root of a persons health issues, its so much easier to prescribe medication and say 'problem solved'. The consequences of that is quite clear.

Brooke is the one I feel most sorry for on this show. I really hope she's all right. At first I thought her family were jerks, but I now know they don't understand what she goes through everyday in constant pain. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Her brother is 200+ lbs and 5'8" and "one Lortab (vicodin) puts me on the ground" he says.."get real" he says. Well, I am 110lb female who's 5'4" and one Vicodin will take away my pain and let me function without pain to focus on my work, my family and my home. That statement is crazy - that is like saying something like 1/2 a beer makes him drunk. (I have a cracked neck vertebrae and discitis and a range of things wrong with my neck, chronically.) I feel terrible for Brooke.

There is a difference between dependence and addiction.
My husband has RA, and I know how much pain he is in on a daily basis. Sometimes his medication makes him sleepy and sometimes he cannot drive. This does not mean he's an addict or that he needs an intervention. He needs relief from his pain and I'd rather see him sleeping on the sofa than doubled over in pain.

I feel horrible for ... ( 2 months ago by sadaffair)
I feel horrible for her. How unfair life is. I just don't think her family understands her at all. Sure, you shouldn't just focus on all the things that are wrong in your life but I can definitely see myself in her when people around her talk about getting married and having babies while her life is just...up and down. It's hard to pull yourself up when you get stuck and bitching at her won't help.
If you read deeply ... ( 2 months ago by susantaylorosky)
If you read deeply about psychosomatic pain, you start to see that people can have very real injury, pain or disease (fractures, RA, fibro) but as doctors can't fix it it also becomes an emotional communication and gets worse and worse. Pain medication at some point masks that. Brooke's very real pain here is obviously the symbol of all the denied emotional crud in the entire family!

her family alone helped push her towards becoming an addict. Seldom have I seen a more miserable, selfish group of people than Brooke's "family"

her family sucks! treating her like shes some low life junkie but shes clearly in pain considering she walks like shes just been ass-raped! maybe she does take too much, maybe its partly because she enjoys it but if i was in constant pain id take loads too!

I also really don't think she should be driving.
