instead of putting the filter over the camera, you can put the filter AROUND the IR emitter, like a remote.

No, that wouldn't work at all. The point is that the video stream provided from the camera can only see infrared light. Everything else is black. If you put the filter over the IR emitter you'd have no effect whatsoever.

Could this be modified to use usb powered infrared leds to illuminate an infrared reflector on my glasses? I have a disability, and this would be a great way for me to move my pointer on my macbook pro. More responsive movement detection would be nice too.
