Step by Step Instructions:
1. use Internet Explorer or another internet browser other than firefox to find and download the file, then save it to your desktop.
note: you'll need to create a firefox add-on account to download the file
if you try to download it with firefox, it won't work because its not a compatible version of fasterfox anyways
2. download a free trial (its an unlimited trial) of a program called "winRAR" if you don't already have it, and open up the firefox add-on using winRAR
(there's a link to it in the description of this video)
3. drag and drop the file "install.rdf" from the winRAR window onto your desktop.
4. open the copy of "install.rdf" using wordpad (or notepad)
then find where it says:
(search using carrots, not brackets)
"[em:version]2.0.0[/em:version]"
and
"[em:maxVersion]2.0.0.*[/em:maxVersion]"
and change the numbers to *'s. So 2.0.0 would become *.*.*
5. save the file, then drag the new copy of "install.rdf" back into the winRAR window of the fasterfox addon and replace the existing file
if you just click the "ok" button when you drag the file back into winRAR, it'll replace the old one automatically.
6. close out of winRAR, and take your newly modded xpi file and drag it into your firefox window. then install and restart firefox.
7. a quick little recommendation for faster fox, when you have fasterfox installed, right click on the
the icon and go to:
options►fasterfox►enable prefetching
this will definitely help the overall speed of your browser :)

I have a question, though. My firefox updates automatically from time to time, does that mean I have to do the "changing the version" trick everytime the browser gets updated?
easier steps:
1. download link in his comment that says: fasterfox for ANY VERSION OF FIREFOX
2. save to desktop.
3. drag into an opened firefox then wait 3 seconds and click install.
4. restart firefox and enjoy
anything you see out on the web concerning fasterfox that works with firefox 3 is "unofficial"
you have to drag it into firefox. not double click it
