YORK -- The York County Sheriff's Department says it's determined to bring to justice whomever is responsible for killing 120 hogs at a local confinement operation.
The animals suffocated to death when someone intentionally killed the power to the facility. Sheriff Dale Radcliff said it appears the power was turned off after midnight last Thursday and the dead pigs were discovered Friday morning.
Because the power was turned off, the fans, air conditioning units and ventilation systems stopped.
"This was absolutely intentional," Sheriff Radcliff said. "And there was no way to see the hogs or realize they were there -- unless the person or people who were responsible had that information already. It's not like you could see them from the road."
He said the way the electrical box was tampered with also indicates the person or people seemed to know "exactly how to cut the power to that building."
Radcliff said the investigation is in full swing and they hope to have someone in custody very soon.
