the males vary in their hunting frequency. nomadic coalitions and individuals must hunt, they require too much meat to be able to survive scavenging, pride males tend to monopolize any kills made by the females, but they will often go off on their own and make kills, they will try take any kill made by any other large predator within range of their senses. the lionesse have trouble killing very large prey without the males.

Everything you said is true, Except: "the lionesse have trouble killing very large prey without the males". That's false. When it comes to killing large preys, every extra lion, male or female, helps & goes a long way. A male is equally valuable as a female. The females do tend to be more confident when the males are present & expect & yield the lead role to the male(s) during the take down of large preys. But, any animal they can kill with the aid of the males, thay also kill without any male.

The affection is unconditional between coalition male lions untill a female comes in heat, then is a fight for who wants it more or who's tougher right now or who gets the first shot at excessive mating. Food & females are the only things that come between coalition males.
Also, the males will let very young cubs feed at a large kill while keeping the females away. They've also been known to call the familly to kills. We are finding the male lion to be gentler father than previously thought.

they may fight, but they wont seperate, each will come to the others defense, how gentle the males are towards cubs(or any other pride member) depends on how hungry they are. lol

Haha, too bad for the cubs, they couldn't crack open the ostrich eggs. They should've taken the eggs with them and waited for them to hatch and then chowed down on the poor ostrichs, lol.
