Rick Harmon flys low as he directs band of wild horses to makeshift corral at the Twin Peaks Herd Management Area that straddles the California/Nevada border about 30 miles northeast of Susanville. The Bureau of Land Managment is rounding up about 1,000 wild horses and burros to balance the population against the needs of mule deer, pronghorn antelope and permitted livestock.

here's an idea why don't you geld them(I know there are ways to do it)that will help keep there numbers down, instead of rounding them up and half of them go to slaughter cause they can't get adopted.

Oh God this video makes me sick. 800,000 acres and 1,700 horses. That means that EACH horse has more than 470 acres! But these assholes try and convince us that they are overpopulated. What an F'ing joke. I also like the stallions fighting in close quarters with the others, foals included. It's great how they don't tell you what happens to the horses AFTER they are rounded up. Hmm...wonder if they are trying to hide the blood on their hands?

The horses are a symbol of American's freedom. The fact that both sides of the argument are quoting "what THEY tell us," Just goes to show how helpless and stupid Americans have become. It's time we take a stand. Get these ridiculous lobbyists out of our head and take care of the country. Wild horses are not overpopulated. Their treatment in holding facilities is bad, and they are wild -not domestic in the least. Owners can train them, but only with great compassion.

A BLM researcher RE genetics said the poulations would have to be at least 100 horses per herd to have enough genetic diversity for survival. Most of the "herds" are statistically dead.
He also weighted herds according to how pure "spanish" they were. The more spanish the more valuable. Odd that even the red necks buy this arbitrary selection. It allows the BLM to eliminate all but the "valuable". How American! The remaining herds are essentially bred for potential adopters by the BLM.

800,000 acres of public land at Twin Peaks. Mr. BLM states that there were "about" 700, nearly 800 wild horses in 2006. Wait, Ms. BLM says they counted 1700 head, management leveles are 448 - 758 with a planned gather of 900? Does anyone else see a number problem here? ...or is it just me.

I adopted two wild horses this year from the BLM. Both are 2 yr olds and were 'gathered' together. They must have been so frightened to have been rounded up like that.
Both are doing well and are very much loved. I highly recommend adopting a wild horse. They are fun to train and are very loyal.
