I think that your definition of 'durg' is a little incomplete. What about drugs like DMT, which is found in the human brain and part of normal function? DMT is considered to be one of the most powerful hallucinogens.
This has already ... ( 1 week ago by psychetruth)
This has already been addressed in earlier comments.
I disagree, or ... ( 1 week ago by theawesomone)
I disagree, or rather, I couldn't find anything pertaining to substances necessary for normal function that can also be abused. DMT is not a competitive inhibitor for synapse receptors; it is the natural and necessary neurotransmitter needed for everyday function. Its made by the body.
You disagree with ... ( 1 week ago by psychetruth)
You disagree with what? Here is one of the comments about DMT that was posted earlier,
"Any nutrient or natural biological compound in your body, if consumed in too high a quantity becomes toxic.
This is why people get high breathing pure oxygen. This is why people can die from drinking too much water. This is why sugar is addictive.
Although DMT occurs naturally in the body it doesn't occur in the amounts people take it to trip."
DMT isn't ... ( 1 week ago by psychetruth)
DMT isn't technically a drug. See video "Have a Sugar Addiction? About Obesity, Nutrition, Diabetes" It explains why DMT behaves as a drug.

Ah, thank you for pointing that out to me. It seems that it would be good to say something about that in the video. Or maybe I could just watch all your other ones; they're pretty good.

Really? Is serotonin syndrome fatal? How many milligrams of, say, Lexapro and/or 5-HTP would it take on average? Make of this what you will, but that sounds intruiging.

I don't think it's fatal in and of itself. It's very difficult to die from an overdose of SSRIs. However, people have freaked out and committed suicide (or murder) because of vivid hallucinations during serotonin syndrome.
You should be able to find serotonin syndrome on wikipedia.
Any good health ... ( 1 week ago by SSL9000J)
Any good health food store, and some supermarkets, will have a great selection of hemp foods, from breakfast cereal to hemp seed milk. It's funny/sad that hemp is illegal to grow in the United States, however it can be imported. (Some agency, DEA or something, considers the hemp plant a "drug" or narcotic. Their reasoning is that A: it appears similar to the marijuana plant, which could conceivably be grown alongside it undetected, and it does contain THC, albeit something like .000000001%.)
Great video, and I ... ( 1 week ago by SSL9000J)
Great video, and I agree with all that was said. But here's my dilema: About 6 months ago I finally saw a psychiatrist about depression, which I've more or less always had. (I'm a cutter.) I was put on Lexapro, now up to 20 mg. I feel great, mood is happy, thinking is clearer, and only now has anything else I've been doing to help with depression (exercise, sleep, pursuing interests, etc.) seem to be woeking. How does one reconcile this with the (quite valid) points made in the video?

I'm only at 7:40 of the video so far, but I already am wondering, cannabis fits under the description of a drug, despite many people's claim that it's an herb, it is an intoxicant that causes an altered state of consciousness. So when you said to much of any drug will result in death, how come to much THC won't result in death? Or would you still consider it something you can OD on even though you'd have to smoke a ridiculous impossible amount to die from it?

Great information, fascinating, and a total downer. talk about taking the fun out of life.
I gotta go get a drink after that dose of reality.
here's a question ... ( 6 days ago by jupiter217)
here's a question though, i thought antidepressants made up the missing serotonin that is causing the depression in the first place. people are depressed because their body is not naturally producing the amount of serotonin necessary to be the amount the brain requires. so the antidepressant just brings the level up to normal, and thus end the depression.
so what about cases where someones body is not producing the biochemicals a healthy functioning body requires.
yea, that low ... ( 6 days ago by psychetruth)
yea, that low serotonin thing is a bunch of pseudoscience crap that used for marketing. No serious neuro-psych believes it and neither do the drug companies.

A scientific or ... ( 2 days ago by psychetruth)
A scientific or medical definition for poison is, "substance capable of interfering with metabolic processes of a cell or part of a cell, of a tissue, organ or organism".
Poison do not have to be lethal, they interrupt normal functioning, cause damage OR cause death.
