Jacquelyn Lane Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien - May 28, 2008

Uploaded by: hazelwhisper
Video Description:
This performance is the culmination of a class at the 92nd Street Y called "Exploring Cabaret." The show takes place in the Reprise Room at Dillon's Lounge in Midtown Manhattan. In my final performance of the night, I sang the famous Edith Piaf number "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien." The English verse that I sing at the end is my personal poetic translation.
I have 12 years of training in classical singing, but very little experience with Broadway material. I am open to constructive feedback, but please be mindful of the fact that I am not a professional singer, and curb negative comments accordingly.

I think you did very good. The french version is dependent on being a native French speaker. I have heard this song many times but the sound is very different from a native. Also the French sound seems to be very nasel which is different than most other peoples sing. Great Job and tnanks.

I'm told that Edith Piaf's pronunciation was highly exaggerated. I couldn't mimic her accent, so I copied an accent used by an American opera singer--not 100% authentic, but easier to pronounce while singing.
Thanks for your compliments.
