Cheap and arrogant. SA speakers of English would be well advised to work on their own accent instead of making fun of non-native speakers. The SA English accent is a pain to the ear of a foreigner who has been taught to approximate Received Pronunciation as much as he can. In fact Afrikaans is much more melodious than any form of native English I ever heard in SA.

I've often been laughed at by my Afrikaans friends when I try to speak their language, so I feel nothing for giving it back just as much.
What I feel is unfortunate is the fact that most Afrikaners are mixing their language with English to the extent of really cheapening Afrikaans. Is this somehow supposed to sound fashionable? It just sounds stupid to me.

Unfortunately this stereotyping has been going on for a long time in South Africa... In English directed at Afrikaners, in Afrikaans directed at the English and in both English and Afrikaans directed at black and colored people of South Africa. I am sure in black and colored languages directed at the English and Afrikaans. To start putting people down who dis agrees with you shows that you have lost the argument. Yes, it might be funny... Yes, I can laugh about the Afrikaans accent. I am Afrikaans. But making fun of Afrikaans speaking people's accent has been a tool to put down Afrikaans speakers long before the passbook was used to put down black and colored people in South Africa... Sadly by both English and Afrikaans people... Let's look a little deeper beneath the surface of jokes like these... South Africa has an extremely complex background and there is a cause for all of these... going back hundreds of years - not just 60
