I'm going too get a Savage 12FV in .223 in about a week and im trying too deside what scope too get, and im looking for a accurate,clear, and easy too use scope for AT MAX $200 bucks. Mostly i'll be usin this scope for target shoot 95% of time at targets and other for varmints. I also want the zoom at 3-9,4-12, or somwhere in that area. (btw im new at scopes) plz reply and help me out - Richard

You are going to want to spend at least $300 bucks for a good scope. You can get a Super Sniper and they are some of the best scopes you can get for the money.. I have a AR-15 16" HBAR, pretty much everything changed to how I would want it and as for an Optic I dont use a Scope I use a ACOG a TA31F same as the military and you dont have to worry about changing the MOA on it due to it having a BDC on it. the BDC is out to 800m and it works.. I can get 8" groups at 800m and that is witha stock bbl

Nope, you're just at an angle where you can see air distortion. You can see this kind of stuff with most telescopic lenses when looking from behind the bullet. Awesome effect.

Neat. I'll take your word for it, but I've been shooting scoped rifles for 25 years and have never seen this effect, either while shooting, or watching someone else shoot at the range through a spotting scope.

Whats your sea level? If you watch the background you can see a heavy level of mirage effect. At higher sea levels this is common since the air is thinner causing it to heat and cool easier. The effect of a bullet passing through that enhances it. While lower level or just more humid areas have thicker air the effect is more concentrated causing a much smaller cone effect.
Granted though, lower altitude thick air would be cause for much different MOA.

Leapers = Garbage at the very least I would spend for half ass optics would be in the $200 to $300 range. Millett makes a decent scope for right at about 300 bucks. But I honestly would go the extra and get a Burris XTR or Nikon Monarch. Vortex has a decent long range scope too in the $400 range.

Not necessarily. Remember it takes the sound a short amount of time to get back to the camera. The shooter thinks the bullet is leaving the barrel at approximately 2950feet per second (fps). By the time it's gone 500 yards, its probably traveling 1700 fps.. I don't have the actual ballistics chart in front of me to know the actual speed. But point is it's constantly slowing down, so you can't really give it a constant speed.

Great Shooting. I am just now setting up a new S&W M&P15PC from the Performance Center. Installed JB mounts and Sightron Scope last night...will give it a try this weekend. Hope it shoots as good as that Super Bull!
