Carolyn Jessop was born into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a group splintered from and renounced by the Mormon Church, and spent most of her life in Colorado City, Arizona, the main base of the FLDS.
Since leaving the group in 2003, she has lived in West Jordan, Utah, with her eight children. Jessop is the author of "Escape," the first-person account of life inside an ultra-fundamentalist American religious sect, and one woman's flight to freedom with her children. - Tattered Cover Bookstore

Well I guess if you say it's true than it must be true.
Allegations of such a serious nature really need hard evidence. Too many people are too eager to believe any abuse story they hear these days, and all too happy to completely disregard the presumption of innocence and every other civil right that made America a great country. There's too much witch hunting going on, and too many corrupt people profiting from that witch hunting. False allegations destroy lives, and cost millions.

I will place this book "Escape" by Carolyn Jessop on a shelf next to one of Gandhi, Nelson Mendela, Holocaust Survivors, and the American Civil War.
A story of rape, and slavery, and torture, and brainwashing, and survival!
I this book becomes part of everyones library and the success brings back some of the life and time lost being a prisoner.
the award I imagine is a simple one with 8 gold stars one for each child she rescued at great risk to her life.

i have read several biographies about polygamy victims and I am glad and greatful that these women have the courage to come forward. When this is all you know, it takes alot of courage to delve into the unknown of the outside world. I hope they continue to write books and make the world aware so that future generations do not have their childhood stolen from them. I am very glad to see an interview with Carolyn Jessop posted on here! I received her book last Christmas, and I think I finished reading it in a couple of days since I didn't want to put it down. It's amazing, the courage she had to save her children at the risk of her own freedom. You'll understand how free you truly are after you read this. Religious freedom is our right, but we cannot go on letting these "communities" off scot-free. Your nearly every move dictated by others isn't freedom...

Who cares about religion? What matters is that people are getting hurt. I feel she is telling the truth, but if not, that's ok. A book a woman wrote about the Guatemalan civil war was later proved that there were events that didn't happen to her or her family. But it was happening to people out there and she brought the world's attention to it. Whether it's true or not, Carolyn is helping by bringing awareness. It takes real guts to go against something you've been taught your whole life Go her.
