I assume the 5er, 7er, and 12er's are tribes and the sheiks or those tribes are in control of Pakistan. That is the way Iraq is set up too.

I am half and half on what you said. To Say the Musharraf did nothing is an understatement. He did in the beginning catch the Most of the Terrorist involved in 9/11. He is also was the first Leader in Pakistan to give the religious Leaders a chance to come to power and they become his Oppistion in the Election. He has to balance between Religious Extremist at home & the USA. In Politics everything is dirty.

Benazir never had a good record at Democracy and she herself Robbed Billions of Dollars which she got from the USA/Europe for Pakistan. Politics in Pakistan is run by people from outside of Pakistan, mostly from the US. I dont think Musharraf wanted to give up his power but was forced by the US/Europe to Let Benazir & Nawaz sharif. Both leaders where corrupt and would face charges but All were drop some how. I think the US is looking for the next Puppet Leader they can control in Pakistan.

Agree with some things, disagree with others, but as Mr Obaidkarki says, Ron Paul has the perfect idea. Stay out, America cannot fix Pakistan, and besides that, we are so broke we couldn't if we wanted to.

The USA doesn't want to stay out of Pakistan, because Pakistan now is having a major economically growth and China is Investing heavily in Pakistan. The USA wants its Share of the Pie as to say. Even Iran & India have a stake in Pakistan due to the Iran-Pak-India Gas pipe Line.

But we see that over +90% of insurgents in Iraq are home grown.
The Occupation is failing, just like it did in Vietnam using false excuses to try and cement support.
