this video is a powerful reminder about the aviation biz, you cant get away with fancy talk and showmanship. you gotta produce results and be perfect no matter what.

you make the blades? thats awesome. how did you land on that job? do you have to be an engineer? why is one blade the price of a luxury car?

They do, this is to test a balde failure, when a blade comes off due to a fan blade failure caused by design or material faults

Yes you have to be a skilled engineer to make these, I am in quality control, I measure the fan blades so they are exactly to design specs, the cost is because they are under development, but they are a hollow titanium blade with a girder structure inside, the process is unique to RR, and is very difficult to control thats all I can tell you as the process is top secret.

I am a pilot for united airlines and i fly the 747 and we are tought how to handle the plane in the event that will happen. we would secure the engine to avoid fire then shut down the oppisite engine and get to the nearest airfield. That is one of the longest and most important lessons during the ATP course.

Sorry?
You shut down the opposite engine?
What do you mean?
you would shut down ... ( 1 week ago by huskerfan608)
you would shut down the engine on the other side of the plane. for example if your right inside engine shuts down you would shut down the left inside engine to balence the thrust on both sides of the plane. if you leave one side with two engines it can cause that wing to move faster and produce more lift. this can cause the plane to spin
Sorry but if you ... ( 1 week ago by tommyA350)
Sorry but if you are flying a plane that can weigh more than 360 tonnes and you have an engine failure the LAST thing you would want to do is shut down a perfectly good working engine on the other side.
Sure the extra thrust coming from one side would make the plane pitch and yaw to one side but cause the plane to spin?
I remember a BA flight a while back. A 747 and they had an engine failure on takeoff but they still continued from America all the way to England on 3 engines.

im texting/chatting with a real pilot

is it hard to become one???

I was just wondering if the plane only was one engine on the left wing and one in the right wing what would you do??? do you still shut one engine or what would do?
Its not hard it ... ( 2 days ago by huskerfan608)
Its not hard it just takes a lot of time. It took me almost 3 years to get my commercial license than at 23 i got my ATP license. It will more than likely take a long time to get too get to captin. I got lucky to become a captin at 25. It took me getting a lot of lucky breaks
You would have to ... ( 2 days ago by huskerfan608)
You would have to just hold the plane with the rudders and deal with the adverse yaw. You would be finding an airport quickly because if the other engine fails those planes dont glide
...hmmm, nice try, ... ( 1 day ago by CatalinaAVX)
...hmmm, nice try, if you're trying to convince folks you're type-rated on a jet you'd best stop suggesting you'd shut down a perfectly serviceable engine just to counteract a bit of yaw. Perhaps you've not read about the function of a rudder on your FlightSim 2000 manual yet? I really do fly a jet every day (B737). B747 skipper my ass.

If you had 1 engine ... ( 18 hours ago by tommyA350)
If you had 1 engine on the left and 1 on the right you would have an equal amount of thrust coming from both sides.
And believe me no 747 pilot would ever shut down a good engine. Period. A 747 will actually fly quite well on 3 engines.
This shutting down a good engine on the other side to balance out the thrust huskerfan608 is telling you is complete nonsense.
