Video Description:
This is footage from the making of one of the songs off of the new Solillaquists of Sound album, "As if We Existed". DiViNCi explains how he turns a snare sample into a "Guitar" sound and plays the take that actually gets used on the final version of the song, "Berlin". Here is another example of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piDstAVexgY.

Talk about re-inventing the wheel :S Why not go the whole hog and create an MPC orchestra to replace the philharmonic while your at it! After all, who need's proper musical instruments anyway? James Marshall Hendrick's must be turning in his grave.

If you live in the past you'll never succeed. It's called: different tools for different applications. Thank you.

The allication here seems to be a guitar solo :O . I dont live in the past, far from it however, logic tells me a guitar is the best tool for this particular aplication.
There is no such ... ( 1 week ago by switchee)
There is no such thing as *best* tool for any application. Just ask any post-production studio. There are things he can do with his "guitar solo" setup that a guitarist can't do.
Logic and art don't mix when logic hampers innovation.

Im asking myself, and i'm telling me i couldn't give a fuck what you think. Tell me this guy is a grade 8 guitarist and is "choosing" to perform his 38/s solo on a digital sampler because... erm... no, i can't think of a good reason either.
Because he's ... ( 1 week ago by switchee)
Because he's innovative. Your opinions reveal: you are a hack. You're not a true artist; or at least one with any vision. No real artist would put down another's particular method for achieving his work. I'd refrain from making yourself look more and more foolish by laying down your indefensible stance.
Pardon, i was ... ( 1 week ago by farengae)
Pardon, i was merely expressing my right to an opinnion (which you clearly do not share) as a grade 8 guitarist. Not once did I claim to be innovative or an artist. In fact, right now im using a fork to remove bolts from my fairing despite the fact theres a perfectly good spanner which was designed for the job right here too ! It's not easy, but it sure is innovative! You think I look foolish, excellent, the opinions of a faceless keyboard warrior have significant gravitas in life :)

I think it's clever how hes done that an all, but i gotta say, doesnt really compare to a good ste vai guit solo.

probably.. but its obvious that hes not a guitarist.. but yet a creative artist. now.. can a guitarist create something as such? can a strict guitarist even come close to what this man can produce on this level of music? he is making music using his methods.. and thats all that really matters.. sit and appreciate.
This is not ... ( 1 week ago by farengae)
This is not innovative and if you think it is *rolleyes* then im gussing your just young and ignorant, the likes of Carl Cox / Liam Howlett / Micky Finn / Toby Marks and many others have been doing this kinda stuff since the late 80's and even before that late 70's early 80's soft cell / gary numan to name just a couple. I don't blame your ignorance, your just a wee peep, i can see that.
his methods are ... ( 1 week ago by ickerish)
his methods are still his methods.. he made the sounds and he used them to make a guitar solo.. he didnt say anywhere in the video that he was the first to try to create sounds using other sounds.. plus they were techno/house stars.. divinci is using a snare turned guitar to layer into hip hop beats.. he does great things with the mpc.. thats all! and micky finn? mickie finn from the 60's was more innovative... lol.. tainted love? simple beat machine.. simple synth *shrugs*
That seems like a ... ( 1 week ago by farengae)
That seems like a fairly intelligent response dude, you should be proud!! Tainted love isn't the only Soft Cell tune in the world. You should check the rest of Mark Almond's stuff. The art of falling apart is an awesome album. And way ahead of it's time. And trust me Micky Finn was a giant at Kinetic in stoke late 80's here in the UK. Guess you had to be there!! The crazy thing is, these peeps where doing this kind of thing with vasty primative samplers than we have today.

"can a strict guitarist even come close to what this man can produce"
The guitar shaped the music industry as it is today, and continues to do so. Otherwise why would this guy be trying to recreate it's sound?
