Future by Design shares the life and far-reaching vision of Jacque Fresco, considered by many to be a modern day Da Vinci. Peer to Einstein and Buckminster Fuller, Jacque is a self-taught futurist who describes himself most often as a "generalist" or multi-disciplinarian -- a student of many inter-related fields. He is a prolific inventor, having spent his entire life (he is now 90 years old) conceiving of and devising inventions on various scales which entail the use of innovative technology. As a futurist, Jacque is not only a conceptualist and a theoretician, but he is also an engineer and a designer.

Why would you build cities underwater when there is perfectly good land everywhere. Here's an idea. Things need to be efficient without being so uniform people get lost. Ever been in a mall that's too big? A 10 deck parking garage? A stadium or large concert venue? Some design does not scale as well as others. Why doesn't everyone always shop at the huge economy stores and often favor the local grocer/hardware store/etc?

Malls are designed to be confusing on purpose so you spend more time walking by stores, increasing the chances overall that more people will buy on impulse..

I think the future shouldn't just be made to be functional and efficient, but I just think it should be delibirately made to look cool... but I suppose we are doing that anyway, when you look around.

Sadly four words come to mind, 'it will never happen'. There is no political or social will to build these buildings or create the technology. For an example look no further than ground zero in New York, after 6 years now it's still a hole in the ground.

If you want to live in a resource-based system where everything's free... why not make this film available online for free? Alex Jones makes his movies available for free. Zeitgeist 1 and 2 are free. What gives?

In case you haven't noticed, we don't LIVE in a resource-based economy yet. Besides, FBD was produced & directed by a professional documentary filmmaker who makes documentaries for a LIVING -- would you suddenly go to work tomorrow and tell your boss he or she doesn't need to pay you anymore because you want to live in a money-less system? Get real. Take steps to make this type of vision a reality instead of expecting to suddenly get everything of value for free.

vbullinger Zeitgeist 1 and 2 are awesome movies, but The Venus Project is even more. And I guess they need the money for they plan. In today's world, what can anyone do without money?
