ATTENTION: To clear things up! The reason It's called CLoverfield is because that is the exit Abrams takes when leaving work. I'm aware that that is the official reason. If you guys dont read this part -damn- but I will make another video clearing things up and more theories and such.

Cloverfield is a really good movie, i saw it twice and as much hype their was waiting to find out some decent answers like "what is the monster, where did it come from?". AND THE MOVIE FED YOU NOTHING. Which i actually enjoy, a lot. It keeps making you want more. If you look closely into the movie, you can spot many hints as to what the monster might be/its purpose.
Also, in the alley, when they just decided to go into the city, an asian man stops him and starts warning him in Japanese. I thought it might have been a clue, but it was only translated to "They are spiders! evil, paristic spiders in the city, dont go further!". so yea, not much spoilers there.
Anyway, i might do another one of these if I learn more about the movie. I don't own Cloverfield or anything, this is a fan-made conspiracy vid.

So saying that the splah isn't the monster... what is it then? I will say I think that makes perfect sense, or at least more than the monster being here for a thousand years in New York with bright lights, car horns, millions of people and it gets woken up by a satilite falling into the water? Come on now...

PART THREE THEORY
The monsters life expansion is very short so the "babies" could have easily grown which would lead to a sequel which in all honesty probabley wouldn't be any better than WAR OF THE WORLDS. and finally I think the goverment knew about the monster, the disease, ect. theres no proof but in some parts it is implied.

i think that the set of arms by the creatures stomach is a baby in the mother's pouch. the baby survived the explosion and attacked "what's his face" in the end. the monster in the plaza was the father cuz it didn't have the extra set of arms.

flamingpirate92, You are wrong. JJ Abrams said the monster had been developing deep underwater for a while when the Satalite that you saw came down and woke the monster. The reason the monster was rampaging was because it was a baby. Also JJ Abrams also said there was only ONE monster.

if you think about it scientificlly, its possible that the creature could stay asleep because noise does not travel that far on land, now suppose it does some how get underwater, underwater signals travel far but the truth is, the monster is possibly thousands and thousands of miles deep beneath the ocean.

you know what's funny? Is that a lot of people say that the satelite is what woke up the cloverfield monster. But it's weird how only now it would wake up. Since it's beneath New York, which is noisy as hell, has a lot of boats going in and out, and suffered the sept 11 tragedy. Even though all of that was going on in the time before the satelite, the monster was still asleep. Now that's what I call a heavy sleeper man.
