Rubenstein has such amazing tone here, its impossible to replicate. This trademark of his is particularly evident here.

The reason I like Rubinstein is because the poetic idea of the piece is NEVER lost - La Campanella - the LITTLE bell. For those who are richly gifted technically there is the temptation to let their technique overshadow the imagination of what the piece is in the first place. Rubinstein never rushes the musical phrase and never loses proportion and his use of accent always clarifies the overall pulse. BRAVO!!

Much better than Evgeny Kissin or whatever his name is. Kissin's sounds so mechanical it lacks the feelin that Rubenstein gives.
You don't have to be a great musician to hear the difference in the two performances. That is near perfection in my opinion. THis is a very difficult piece. I believe it is considered one of if not THE most difficult piano pieces. I tried to learn it once...tremendous!

Actually, I'm learning this piece currently, and it is cake compared to some of Liszt's other pieces, but compared to piano pieces such as Mozart, this is incredibly difficult.
