I think it's the tone. Folks here "high-end" fusion bass, and Mark King jumps to mind. You could also say Marcus Miller, or the like. Or it could be the same reason people always compare Victor Wooten with any other bass player, or Jaco, or Nathan Watts, or whoever Also, is one of them slightly out of tune, or playing an 8-string, because there are some overtones that absolutely kill this song. It's a great show of prowess by two wonderful players, but man... it hurts the brain at a few points.

Hehe, the only times I've ever heard versions of this song it was out of tune. It makes it a bit more eccentric xD

indeed it's Mark King's like ! lsiten to other songs ans solos from those bassists and you'll see high-end fusion bass ! they're greater on other songs...
But Mark king will always play faster and in the tune i guess ^^ , but those bassists are really talented geniuses in their way !
not the best song to see that :)

try "truth","fightman" or others where u can see the talent of those bassists, in my opinion, The-Square bassists is higher ! 'bout Mark King : he's king ! Slapping, playing faster than ever, and singing at the same time...wowow ^^ no comparison possible, just different artists, all gr8 in their style :)u should try to listen to Michel Alibo, from the Sixun, jazz-fusion band ; he's HUGE too ! and so many ... V.Wooten of course, M.Miller, Jaco, we miss you. and tons of others... txs to them
