Compared to Kieth, Kirk, Boney james' playing style is just too smooth jazz-like. yea, the song itself is pretty modern funk stuff, but too simple blues stuff he used for the improb. Kieth was hitting some diminish chords as well as pentatonic. Kirk showcased tons of different styles: diminish, blues, dorian, and etc. Personally liked Kirk's solo the best.

Side Affect "Always There" (made in 1977)
The female that sang with the group is Helen Lowe. She married the former road manager for Heatwave James Baylor and now she is known in the Gospel music arena as Helen Baylor. She has had a very successful Gospel music career, but before she became a Christian and started singing for God, she sang background for Rufus feat. Chaka.
Go to side effects "always there" for the real vocal verison
