That's okay Conn keep on playing! I just started playing the harmonica! There are a couple of rifs I can play already! My goal is to be the dexter gordon of the harmonica. In essence, I want to take this instrument to another level! Like Dex!

They don't make jazz like this anymore! Dex was a creator of the music! Just like Miles, Coltrane,Hubbard,Hancock,Parker, and the Dizz!

Kenny G is a joke! Anyone who has ears that hears jazz knows it. He couldn't carry the horn case of the great soprano sax players across the street

the easiest way to pick dex out of a crowd is the little tiny vibratos he puts at the way end of all his long notes....so original
Dexter is one of my ... ( 4 months ago by thesaxdude)
Dexter is one of my favorites. He's such a great player. I think we'd be better served, however, not to argue about who is great and who is not and realize that almost nobody in the general public appreciates jazz music or musicians at all. In my experience, most of the younger crowd is used to pushing a button on a computer and having everything done for them, so they have no idea of what it takes to create great art. I wish we could spend our time changing that, and make it better for all!

Hey SAMADJHI how dare you put Kenny G down.
he is one of the most beloved sax players around!
I completely agree with you dog..Kenny G couldn't carry the horn case of the great sax players across the street! Ha Haaaa i love it.
Maybe my assessment might be as funny as yours...."Kenny G....the king of contemporary elevator music! That's all.

Kenny G is coffee table pretentious crap for people who think they're into jazz...in other words:MUSAK to my ears.
Dexter Gordon and Lee Morgan are my favorites in the jazz scene of yester year....
Terminal vibrato ... ( 2 months ago by jazzflutist)
Terminal vibrato was a mainstay of many great jazz musicians - Louis Armstrong for one. Frowned upon in classical (where the vibrato starts at the start of the note, not at the end).

Yes, he played in Ottawa (Canada) back in the seventies. I shook his hand. He kissed my sister. Go figure. (Dexter knows best).
He'd just fly ... ( 2 months ago by jazzflutist)
He'd just fly across the street in his LearJet. Not sure if Dexter had a LearJet. I think he may have had a bicycle in Denmark (or, was that Stan Getz?). Goes to show, if 60% of the planet likes your music - there's something wrong. Dexter is God.
Dexter, Sonny ... ( 2 months ago by agentfunk69)
Dexter, Sonny Rollins, Coltrane, Colman Hawkins, Sonny Stitt, Wayne Shorter, Brecker, Getz, Webster. Did I forget anyone? You see, I cant even put Kenny G in the same sentence with the baddest MoFo's to pick up the Tenor. I agree..Dexter is god. He had the fullest tone ever, with all due respect to Hawkins. I LOVE the diminished vibrato that he does. Long live Long Tall Dexter!
