Holy Crap! After listening to Jeff Beck all these years, I still had no idea he played with this freaking THUMB - no flatpick, no thumbpick! WTF?!? Does he never use a flatpick? How does he DO that? All those artificial harmonics etc? Damn!
This is probably my favorite JB song, from my favorite JB album. Nice!

Nice tune from the mid 70s--so far ahead of its time. Beck played jazz fusion before anybody else, and it still sounds great all these years later.

I miss the swirly arpeggio synth between phrases that was on the album version. Guess they couldn't do that live. But it's still awesome. I never paid much attention to Jeff Beck because he was marketed as a blues or jazz guitarist, but here he and Hammer, who was considered a fusion keyboard player, are pounding out tight exciting hard rock and making the classic moves and facial expressions of hard rockers. I missed out on a lot of cool stuff because of marketing. At least I bought Wired.

deejay0077...I want ... ( 3 weeks ago by sontam99)
deejay0077...I want to start off as saying:"Beck is my favorite guitarist ever"...but he's not the first fusion guitarist. Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra was doing there thing before him. as a matter of fact, listen to Billy Cobbham's Spectrum...Tommy Bolin was playing some stuff that Jeff really like alot. And a few months later...Beck the blues master was dead, and Beck the fusion god was born!
...and btw, guess ... ( 3 weeks ago by sontam99)
...and btw, guess who the keyboeard player was on that Cobbham album...you guessed it...Jan Hammer!!!I did not come to this realization, myself, until a few years ago. i always thought that Beck was the first...BUT you know what...it doesn't really matter. beacause Wired and Blow By Blow will Always be the greatest fusion albums EVER!!

Sontam-You are correct in your comment about others playing this music before him. I meant the first musician to really bring fusion to the forefront with a hard rock twist as well. Beck's style is very unique in a way.

Beck was not the first with rock influences in Jazz...Not quite;
Miles Davis was first with Bitches Brew, also; Chick Corea's RTF with Bill Connors and McLaughlin MahaV Orchestra.
I used to love Beck but after being quite a trail blazer in the past he's stagnated for 20 years with the same old same old.
Jazz Rock got old fast. World Music became so much more interesting.
