That just proves how little you know of the Beatles catalog. Sure, they took a couple years to figure out how to write songs, and there was a lot of crap from '63-'65 - but Magical Mystery Tour, Sergeant Pepper, The White Album, and Abbey Road were, collectively, a better body of work than the entire Doors catalogue.
Best thing they ever did was the American Prayer record, ironically assembled after the drunken loudmouth died.

First of all, we can't compare. There is a huge difference between the "superficial" and "commercial" lyrics of the Beatles and the mystic and spiritual message hidden in The Doors lyrics. The Doors was an instrument for poetry,performance and cult. Jim's "Friends" know what I'm talking about. Beatles lyrics...You don't need brain for that. To understand The Doors works, you need to be into. So, don't try to impress here.
You can keep your "english dolls". We stay with Jim.

american prayer was pretty terrible and it was composed of only Jim, and not the doors. The doors and Beatles can't really be compared its all about tastes and but Jim is not a drunken bastard. He is the archtype rock and roll star the archtype he created.

The surviving members of the Doors played the music on that album. It wore Krieger and Manzarek's newfound jazz chops all over it, and musically it was far better than any of their old material. The poetry was actually decent, for once.

i'll grant morrison wrote his share of pretentious hackdom. yet, flip coin & you'll find gold in his probes. u read lords/creatures? some of the material is brilliant in re to the amer construct. say what u will, but dont take away his smarts, experience & courage to put his balls on the wood. take for exv this song, the line:amer lost in a roman wilderness of pain, children insane, waitin for summer rain. the metaphor is almost biblical of our modern condition of empire/freedom conflict. heady.
