no, you can hear it if you pay close attention. She just does a great job of controlling it and not spilling it all over the place ;)

OMG ! She is the voice of clarity -- purity -- what the voice was meant to be in heaven, if not on earth !

A truly unique voice.
Wonderful cleanliness of tone, and the ornaments are superb.
I like this type of Handel singng, but I also like the bigger tremulous voices too.
I don't think there's right and wrong - all types of approaches to Handel have their merits.

Eh, not necessarily. A good singer should just be able to know what styles they can pull off. Most voices can't switch back and forth much at all.

Wouldn't you say a good deal of style has to do with how vibrato is executed?
Well... yes, that ... ( 2 months ago by currymuttonpizza)
Well... yes, that was my point to begin with. I meant to say that it's often unhealthy to try to force a style (and vibrato type) on yourself if it doesn't fit what you're physically capable of singing. It's not necessarily a question of talent, it's a question of being physically able or unable to perform certain repertoire.

Such an angelic voice...Just lovely. Much better for this kind of repertoire than singers that use too much vibratto.

Produced by the BBC and first televised in 1982. Emma Kirkby was by far the best soloist in this performance, although David Thomas (bass) really gave his best as well. No one better than Emma Kirkby, imo. And just listen to the Academy, playing with 'period' instruments! Fantastic.

But her voice isn't that angelic anymore! Now she sounds like an old opera singer! Very weired! On that video she was very young!

I have watched Emma Kirkby's career over the years and have never been able to understand the adulation that her voice receives.
It sounds mainly like a soprano straining to be a boy treble.Whilst it is technically perefect(or was) it has no emotion and might as well be a robot.
I apologise to those who like this very "English" type of voice, which I thought (and hoped) had died out years ago.
Obviously not!

The word is purity. She has incredible purity.
I love her and Ruth Holton for similar reasons. No melodramatics just pure empathy.

I cant believe you are an English and still speaks like a clod, not only does it shows your illiteracy towards period music but it shows how ppl comments on things with the small amount of knowledge they have. "I thought commentators like you had died out centuries ago, obviously not." Seems like inept beings still out there and multiplying...

ROTFL. This type of voice has only just arrived. Most of today's opera singers are still nearly as wobbly as Callas at her worst.

Well, despite a wierd high note here and there, this is still the most amazing performance of this aria I've ever heard. And pretty dramatic too. I bet most people here didn't know she could do this. ;) Anyhow, for me, hers is the single most beautiful voice that ever resounded this Earth.

that's because the Messiah was made in the baroque period
