What? Really? This all falls on Rome? If Jim already knew Rome called him Chris then he could have just not gone on the show. It would've been that easy. Granted Rome was a cocky little guy back then, athletes get scrutinized all the time. Everett should have learned by then how to handle criticism, even name calling. It's still funny as hell though.

I know nothing about sport, but I have to say, I will always take the side of the guy who uses words as a weapon over the guy who uses brute force. Any fool can lift weights and then think it gives him the right to push other people around. Everett lost his cool, and the fact that Rome didn't back down when intimidated is much more admirable than Everett's childish tantrum. If Everett hadn't reacted, Rome would have looked childish; as a result, Everett came across much more childish.
