Fleetwood Mac Albatross

Uploaded by: mirageuk
Video Description:
Fleetwood Mac, originally brought together by Peter Green, were a traditional blues band during the late 1960s, but their smash hit 'Albatross' had broader appeal.
'Albatross' and its follow up 'Man Of The World' were untypical of Fleetwood Mac's stage material, but made the band famous.

I love how Peter Green is feeling it & enjoying himself, Kirwan was only 18 when he was added. I bet it was a relief for Pete to have a comrad who supported his musical adventurousness, which by this point was staggering, probably even to him. I understand Spencer was wanting to stubbornly stay with, predominntly, traditional 12 bar blues,at odds, not too creative a collaborator on Green's stuff. Here there are shades of Oh Well arguabbly the most prolific song of FMac. Good reverb on J.S.'s slide.

To the one commentor who "doesn't get it," it's called a sensitive, heartfelt instrumental ballad. It used experimental Afro-influenced rhythms, & unconventional bass line. Also, there was an appreciation for spacial tunes, evoking the wide open scenes in Western American Culture, & bold strength of the Cowboy image, which were undergoing a re-emergance at the time with the popularity in Westerns soundtracks like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. Mercifully, head banger, diva bop, and rap weren't big.

Great. Beutiful song. The man was a genius, I met him in the late 80's and he was still a mess. Don't fuck with LSD!! He seems to have sorted himself out now and has a great band called Splintercell. Worth listening to, after all, it's Peter Greene!!!!

Wow, great comment! Completely agree with your final point. The majority of music these days has been dumbed down to a world full of pretend 'bad attitudes', no soul or creativity. Just plastic brain washing, manufactured by completely out of touch executives at Radio 1/ MTV/ NME (but that's only my opinion!).
Times and styles change, but this is timeless... One of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

To BrianMayRules - from bats.. (Dan): J.S. referred to Jeremy Spencer, in responce to your question. Oh, and while I have this video open - to 'yall, commentors: I re-read the one person's comment, and he may have been saying he "didn't get it" about the "peppered .." comment, by someone (a ways back in the sequence). So if I was a bit testy in defending the song and the genre, EXXX..CC-UuuSE ME (ha)!
