I saw them right before the first album came out. Eddie was like nothing I had ever heard before. I see no reason to compare him to anyone. There are many great guitarists and he is one of them.

Nobody should compare guitar heroes to guitar heroes.... The thing is, everyone has their own personal style EXCEPT, that piece of garbage, or as many of you know him as, the tallentless turd of a human being much less a guitarist, brad giligan gillis... Now there is a true brownie hound. Watching him perform is like watching him masterbate, cause the only one who enjoys it is him, and he shouldnt be doing it in public. All I am saying is he sux really bad, thats all...

Eddie didn't fear shit? Then why did he play with his back turned when he learned tapping? Why did he always think someone was copying him or gonna steal from him? Randy taught and played music and could also read and write it as well. there are many guitarists in bizz today who were his students and they r still in awe.randy never owned a stereo or vh record and u can claim he copied eddie? randy doesn't even sound like eddie even on his worst day! Eddie was repetitive randy wasn't.

Yeah Randy was classically trained. Eddie was self-taught by using his pitch perfect!? Ears, both are two distinctively different syle guitarists. Any teenagers seeing this in 1978 would have crapped their pants..lol

Eddies friends from his days in Pasadena actually warned him that Randy Rhoads was going to come to a show just to steal some of his licks and that he should "turn his back to him when he was doing his tapping tricks". That is from an old Inside magazine article and shows it wasn't even Eddie or Randys fault for the rift. Randy was curious and learning and Eddie was innovative and a little insecure. Nothing more , nothing less.

Eddie never turned his back because of Rhoads. Rhoads was too young and probably never heard about EVH until the release of VH1. By this time, EVH was told to turn his back by his producer, so he would reveal the tapping AFTER the album was released. By the time Rhoads was something, the tapping was no secret to anyone anymore.
Rhoads was never a problem to EVH, everybody knows that.

You mean playing that bunch of easy classical arpeggios and chords that every kid learns in a music school, isn't repetitive?
As good as RR was, in reality he left NOTHING for us, because when he came with that bunch of fast picks and classical melodies, MALMSTEEN was already there, doing the very same thing.
Nobody, and I mean it, nobody in the world never, EVER said: this technique was left by RR. Don't get me wrong, RR was a talented guitarrist who died too young, but that is all.

Randy was born in 1956, one year after Eddie. So he was not "too young". He formed Quiet Riot in 1975 at the age of 17 and went on to play The Whiskey and The Starwood, as did Van halen. Neither you nor I was there to say who told him to turn his back. I was referring to an article in VH fan magazine The Inside to which I subscribed in the 90's, so, obviously I am a fan of Eddies. I never stated Randy was a problem for Eddie. I personaly don't think they compare.

Eddie Has Always been god's right hand man, Jimi Hendrix is WITH GOD NOW and yes he was incredible, BUT EDDIE IS STILL ALIVE TO HELP THE WORLD WITH HIS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!, besides i went to see them in their reunion tour with Roth and i gotta tell you all, his solo there was WAY BETTER than what is in this video

Whoa, hold on a second. You say Randy never left his mark on music? what about, oh I don't know...the DIMINISHED SCALE?!?!?!

Besides, Malmsteen didn't come onto the scene until 1984, 2 years AFTER Randy died.
Don't get me wrong, Eddie is good, and I am not saying Randy is better or Eddie is better;
what I AM saying is that Randy did make contributions is the short time he was around.
He went BEYOND pentatonic and major scales. But I like both guys, so HA!

OH, and Randy and Eddie were local rivals in a way. Even later on, Randy would talk about it. He also said there were many good players who just never got "discovered." George Lynch was one for example.
P.S. Randy thought George was (dare I say it) better than Eddie. When Randy got the Ozzy gig, he even asked George to take over his job teaching guitar at his mom's school...for 5 bucks an hour (lol). Hey, it's more in 1979 dollars than in 2008 dollars!!

Awesome video! I know I won't make any friends saying this, but... Randy, Van Halen, Hendrix, Page, dare I say Dimebag, they all borrowed from those who preceded them. And we wouldn't be talking about any of them if they weren't incredible and influential. Also, tapping is a classical technique, even used on violin. Double-locking tremolo, overdriving amps, thats seriously inventive too.

hendrix didnt. the only thing hendrix did that people before him did was use some of the same scales and chords, but he pretty much invented everything about rock guitar. before him everyone was playing what you heard on the beano album but not as well.
