Your choice of the word delusional depicts a not so good attitude towards a debate over the arts. I could use heavier expressions howeveer i will refrain at this point, hoping that it was just a accident. Now, there have been many expressions used to describe different voice categories, tenore leggero-tenore di grazia, this is as in the case of robusto-drammatico, I am not coming up with this stuff, I have seen it in many high books on the topic. Furthermore, the fact that a singer takes on the

role of a heavier fach(as many singers have done in the past, which hs lead to the destruction of many beautiful voices, Carreras, Di Stefano, Alagna to a point to mention a few) does not in any case mean that he is a singer of this vocal fach. Domingo, took up more than 120 roles. Do you actually think that they were of his fach? Lohegrin? For God's sake. Aragall was a lyric voice as was Domingo and Carreras, the only thing being that Domingo had a problem with high notes, Not due to voice weight

Brilliant performance of the greatest piece of music in Opera! His high C at the end was dramatic and beautifully executed and sustained which is the piece de resistance of this masterpiece! This is the first time I heard of this artist and his version was breathtakingly magnificent! Clearly one of the world's late great tenors! Standing Ovation!!!

Some people say that Corelli is the best Calaf. Ok, maybe. My ear is probably not educated enough but I find his interpretation so boring if I compare it to the excitement, power and efortless interpretation of Pavarotti's Nessun dorma. His Calaf with Sutherland, Caballe and Mehta is cosmic. Just listen to his final notes at Straniero Ascolta - it's magic. I know he didn't perform this role a lot, but so what - he did it this time and did the best, for me.

maybe this role demands a dramatic tenor and not lyrico. But I find Pavarotti's power in the voice more persuasive than dramatic colour of Corelli's voice. pavarotti's voice is sharp like a knife that cuts bread just pointing at it. And if I want to make someone awake I would bet on Pavarotti, not on Corelli. Corelli would probably make fall asleeep - he's voice is boring, too slow, not rounded enough. Domingo's version is also too slow for me, maybe they need a time to breath.

I should say that... it's your taste. But you're correct about "Nessun dorma". I also prefer more light voices at the aria, because it's a monologue, and nobody use to talk to himself, alone, screaming. And the passagios require the voice flying over the notes, better to light voices. But the rest of the opera, I compare Pavarotti and Corelli to motorcycles. To me, the Calaf of Pavarotti is like a 50 HP motorcycle, and Corelli's such amazing Harley Davidson motor sound!

He sings Calaf like Otello... interesting, but not especially beautiful.
Pavarotti's version ... ( 3 weeks ago by elfwood)
Pavarotti's version is the most critically acclaimed due to his ability to make his version more easy on the ears of conventional pop listeners, and somehow I think he emotes best in any of his renditions. That is wat sets him apsrt from other tenors. Corelli does have a bigger voice, but Pavarotti's version is the one I would want in my mp3 player, one I would listen to again and again. And Domingo is at best a baritone with a rather high range for one. His most comfortable high note is an A.
