The giant fiery snake that Voldemort conjured is called "Fiend Fyre". That's what kills Vincent Crabbe in the last book. He learns how to conjure it...but not how to control it.

Davidlovegalen in the book its says that Voldemort was one of the greatest wizards and he knew spells that even dumbledore didn't know so of course, even with the Elder Wand, dumbledore would have a bit of trouble with voldemort.

Dumbledore doesn't even try to kill Voldemort here because of 2 things: 1) the prophecy states that Harry would have to do it and 2) Dumbledore knows that Voldemort has made horcruxes. In the book, Voldemort asks Dumble dore about not trying to kill him. Dumbledore says there are worse things than death. This foreshadows Voldemort's ultimate fate- being stuck in limbo and not able to go to the next life or to become a ghost.

I agree with pollock95675. This scene is a bit stupid. Dumbledore is more powerful than voldemort not weaker...
