It's a great shot, and like many great shots, you better stroke that damn ball. Looking at the shot closer, you can see and hear the cue ball jump which no doubt keep the backspin action on the cue in order to come off the cushion like that.
While I still think this is an impressive shot, it doesn't come close to the Massey-Sayginer 3-cushion trick shots I saw on ESPN recently

I totally agree with what you just said, I don't think I'd have thought of the shot under that kind of tension. But technically it's not an 'oh my gooooooood(with an nasal voice)' type of shot. It was a beautiful shot and I wouldn't have tried it myself, even if I had Corey's skills, but if you're a pro you have to be able to play this type of shot. I totally understand where you're at though.

The 3 was not intentional, look at his sign of excuse towards Mika. He wanted to play safe with the 7 blocking and probably getting the cueball behind the 9.
That 4 only works on new cloth, no chance to hit it on your local bar table like that, the cue ball action will work immediately and not only after it hit the rail

actually, you're completely wrong. the speed at which he hit the 3 means he wasn't playing a safe. And i've done that 4 over and over again trying this same exact shot, you don't need brand new cloth.

well you need a lot of skill to do such a shot like the one on the 4.. look at his queue.. it oscillates ALOT and sounds horrible

i think he was playing it safe, he was trying to hide the cue ball behind the 9. The speed of the ball also indicates this, and besides, a safety shot is the most adequate in this situation.
no, if youre a ... ( 4 months ago by phixxwutwut)
no, if youre a world class player youll able to make this shot, as he did. but not any pro can just get up and shoot a shot like this in a high pressure match. most im guessing would either miss the shot, or not get that action off that rail. im sure you could make this shot after a couple of times on the practice table. but to make this shot under pressure? at the u.s. open in front of a huge crowd and get perfect on the 5? youre really not giving this shot enough credit, it was great.
It's a great shot, ... ( 4 months ago by OsirisGOLAD)
It's a great shot, but it's not an 'oh my god' shot for me. It takes quite some power and precision to get it, and it's great in a match. But I expect a pro player to be able to make this shot. If I see a shot I would expect a professional player to miss five out of ten(or if I couldn't even come up with the way the shot is played), that is an 'oh my god shot' for me. Maybe it's just the way the commentators say it, but it's an overreaction in my opinion.

That was a cool shot, but as a three carom fan, I got more pleasure off the 3 ball carom. One hell of a nice runout! Anyone ever seen him play seven ball? He hardly taps the rack, it's really cool to watch him break!

Yes, he missed an almost straight-in 9-ball. He goes on to win the match, regardless.
