As I think Robin Hitchcock said - How can an era/generation miss a major talent like this guy. Around 73/74 I use to see his albums alot because I was young then and searching for anything Syd Barrett. There use to be a shop at the back of Seymour place W1 and he always put his records in the window. I can still visulise this after 35 years. Wish I bought one at the time. Anyway...

i'm not joking and I don't know why but Nick's mother's song made me cry. I guess it's the melancholy mixed with the knowledge that both of them were part of the same vein of songwriting, of trying to communicate and reach an unreachable... world i suppose. tragic and beautiful.

In 1974, most people probably still believed that suicide was the ultimate unforgivable sin. People preferred hidding it (sometimes even for insurances reasons) and it's perfectly understandable. The suicide of a close loved one is a very traumatic experience, and whether or not he did kill himself, they're handling it as best as then can or know how.
