It's complicated, and as with many Japanese narratives it's left quite vague and the player is left to discern meaning(I'm talking about the games of course) but the movie is more straightforward. I think ReiKazuna is right in that regard.

the movie doesn't give a logical reason like the game does. in the game, the town is a representation of the protagonists inner-demons. the whole point of them going to silent hill is to face them. it's a metaphor. in the movie, it's just irrelevant eye-candy. have you played the games? if not, you really should. it puts the movie in it's place.

the movie is about a girl and her mom going on vacation to "silent hill" and they get in a car crash and end up in a zombie filt town. But they find some nuns (idk how to spell it) that hate this little girl and the daughter looks like that girl so they try to kill the daughter but then the daughter goes missing and the mom sets out to find her.

the ending was REALLY acary/weird how they were like dead the whole time:o then they go to there house and its all white thats how you know they were dead and they died in the car crash at the begining

Alissa, I'm pretty sure they didn't die at the end. On imdb it tells us that Rose, Sharon, and Cybil were merely trapped in some type of 'alternate dimension' of Silent Hill.
