Well, life is disappointing. There aren't any happy endings in Bodymore, the whole point of the series.

One of the single greatest moments in television history. The scene is clearly meant to show us that the boy Michael is dead and only the killer remains. Try finding acting and writing like this on network television. You can't. This one surpasses all 6 years of the Sopranos. I can't wait for "Generation Kill"!!

this was a sad scene...they knew they wouldn't be tight no more after that. dukie was a smart kid with no opportunities and no family support; livin in crackhouses all his life. he was pretty much doomed from the gate. as for michael he had a lot of omar's qualities (street smarts and a conscience) it shouldn't have been a surprise how he ended up. this scene represented the death of their childhood and the birth of the new generation of hustlers and addicts.

Possibly the best ... ( 3 months ago by Buffoon1980)
Possibly the best scene in the entire 5 series, and that's say a hell of a lot. Incidentally, anyone else reminded of the bit near the end of Lord of the Rings where Sam asks Frodo if he can remember the Shire, but Frodo can't? Not sure if it's in the film, but it was one of the most moving parts of the book, in my opinion.

Dukie makes me cry, no amount of praise can do The Wire justice, it ranks among the best novels and films in terms of storytelling and writing.

you could really tell that dukie was hurt bcus mike didnt remember that day. bcus it was so vital, after the piss ballon fight, thats when him(dukie)& mike became close as hell. and thats when duke knew it was time for both of them move on. aww this scene is so sad! "ITS SO COLD IN THE B!"

@chynasmom...I could not agree more. After watching a scene like this, one can't help but wonder...how do u get through to a kid like this? How do u help someone with nothing and nobody learn that they really can rise above their circumstances.
I went through ... ( 2 months ago by TheMORALE)
I went through similar experiences with the friends I grew up with in D.C.. I drove one of my childhood friends past an old lot we used to play on when we were kids and it felt like we were looking at a haunted Ghost Town. The last time I had been there was 20 years prior and it was many of us. Within' just a few years half of my friends were either locked up or dead. By the time I went to College I had established a bunch of new relationships which excluded most of my hood friends.

That's the truth. I couldn't have said it better myself. Ten or twenty years down the road Mike would be the new Omar and Duke would be some crack addict that new him then. This was a sad moment because it was too real.

You"re right ... ( 2 months ago by tysonic777)
You"re right econeywaaa i hate posts like the one above when they talk about how "unfair" this show is. I think the message of The Wire can be summed up with a scene in season 2 where McNulty says how fucked up it is that the dead girls in the container are going to become medical cadavers and the coroner says something like "Who the fuck said it was fair?". Almost 80% of the characters in this show didn't deserve their fates
Yep, I suppose all ... ( 1 month ago by Trafalgar1961)
Yep, I suppose all the soft parts of us wanted Dukie to be 'saved'by someone or something, a bit like Namond was, but I guess this ending was more real, however unfair. Gawd, this this series got under my skin so much. Best TV of the genre ever. Not that it resembles any other previous 'cops n' robbers' show. Thank you Wirelover for posting it. I'm waiting for my season 5 to arrive still, but can never resist a spoiler.

The same thing happened to my son's teenage friends. He is OK but he never really got over what happened back then. I hope things continue well for you. :)
I really think the ... ( 1 month ago by thealphamale3)
I really think the turning point for Dookie is when he was kicked out of Junior High and placed in High School. In Junior High Dookie had a refuge from the drama in his life, there he really enjoyed innocence and life, he also had common access to Mr. P. during this time with the right influences Dookie could have went on to become a pillar to the community. It was a poignant scene in The Wire. Art imitating life. Mike on the other hand missed "those days" but had to let go.

I knew Dukie was going to become an addict because nothing was working for him. School, jobs, the corner. I was just hoping Mike would harden him somehow.
