According to Tim Burton's "Ed Wood", Lugosi was supposed to act as a "puppet master" of sorts, hence the whole "pull the string" bit. But for those who haven't seen the film, I'm sure it just looks like an incoherent mess (which it is).

According to a ... ( 9 months ago by Totalpranny)
According to a review I read on IMDB, the scientist is actually supposed to be God and the rush of buffaloes symbolise the rush of adrenaline and anxiety Glen experiences. Interesting theory, it could be Ed Wood was actually a misunderstood artist in the same way David Lynch was misunderstood at his beginnings. However, there is no way anyone will convince me "Plan 9" was anything else but a hilarious disaster.

I always thought that was a hypnotic scene. The running of the buffalo was an expression of raw power.
Only Lugosi could take such nonsensical words and make them not only seem to make sense but to make them awe inspiring.
There's another later scene where people are surrounding a cowering Glen, pointing their fingers at him and mocking him. You can just see in the background a devil looking figure, who also looks like the actor who played Glen's father.

That's what little boys are made of...
And beware the little green dragon

Always seemed to me to be indicative of sexual jealousy and resentment over the coarseness of what "little boys are made of."
Even Frankenstein's monster was made of better material.

The true story is that Bela was sitting on the toilet and couldn't reach the string to flush, so he needed help.

I'm very curious as to why Wood's movies are so horrible, yet so many (including myself) enjoy them for more than ridiculing them?
(Except for Night of the Ghouls. I can appreciate his other works, but that was just dumb. *lol*)

Artistic nonsense... A forgotten genius like Lugosi and a mad filmaker like wood. A historic combination, that makes the definition of art more complicated to reach.
Long life to cinema!!!

Ed Wood may have been a terrible director. But he had two things that make people remember him for...Heart and a Passion for his work. He was living the dream (in sorta of speak)and didn't let the challenges discourage him.
I argue with people when they compare Ed to guys like Uwe Boll or Aaron Seltzer. Those guys make shit and they care only for money. Ed care more about telling a story in a geeky style. If Wood was alive today, I'm pretty sure he would be appreciated a lot more.

I like thinking that Wood's "incompetence" is largely a result of lack of funds. He has an idea, but without the ridiculous amount of money to spend on it like other directors do, he just goes for what's good ENOUGH and puts it in the can. :P
Meanwhile you get directors who have all the money in the world, and they somehow produce soulless crap. :S Such a waste.
