Η ομιλία του Φιλίπ Λαμπέρ για την πράσινη οικονομία στο συνέδριο των Οικολόγων πράσινων στην Αθήνα, Μάρτιος 2008
The European Greens believe that human activity should take into consideration that we are part of a rich yet finite, interdependent and fragile ecosystem. Within this context we view the economy as a tool, and not an objective in itself. The ultimate goal of the economic activity is to meet the basic needs and to contribute to a better quality of life for all, now and in the future.
We can only have a healthy economy when the earth is healthy. Present generations do not own the earth, but use it and hold it in trust on behalf of future generations. Sustainable development meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of the future generations.
A green economic vision puts social and environmental justice and equity within nations and between nations at the centre. This includes a just use of the earth's resources and reversing the trend of widening the gap between the rich and the poor. We seek to reduce the inequalities in the distribution of power and access to resources. Every person has the right to meet their basic needs: clean air, water, food, soil, shelter, energy, health, freedom. Every human being has a right to solidarity, democracy, self determination, autonomy, responsibility, dignity, self fulfillment. The economy should enhance well being rather and not detract from it.

Philippe LAMBERTS, born in 1963 in Brussels, Belgium, was elected in May 2006 as co-spokesperson of the European Green Party. He had already been member of its committee since 2003, after having represented his home party, Ecolo, at the EGP Council for the period 1999-2003. During that same period, he was adviser on international affairs and defence to the Belgian federal Vice-Prime Minister Isabelle DURANT. He had previously assumed responsibility for those domains for seven years within Ecolo until the party entered the governing coalition at federal level.
At local level, he has been member of the city council of Anderlecht (Brussels) from 1994 until 2006.
During his initial term in the Committee, Philippe focused on the international peace & security domain, later assuming leadership of the working groups which produced the charter of European Greens, which defines our identity as well as the position paper on the future of Europe, both adopted in Geneva in October 2006.
In the political space, he is nowadays focusing his energy on the European Green Party, helping transforming it into the vector of the joint actions of Greens in Europe. He is currently leading the working group on the economy, which aims at producing a common position paper of the European Greens by spring 2008. He nevertheless remains a member of Ecolo's political council, which he joined in 1993.
Alongside his political activities, Philippe LAMBERTS pursues a career in the private sector. He was hired in 1987 by a leading information technology & services company, where he held a number of positions. After an initial stint in finance and planning, he soon moved on to the sales and distribution division of the company, where he assumed responsibility (from local to global level) for clients in the industrial sector, initially from Brussels, then from Paris, France. Since October 2005, he leads the commercial team in charge of industrial and distribution clients in Benelux.
Philippe also has a keen interest in education, which he sees as a key instrument of the personal development of individuals and as the foundation of our society's future. Being vice-president of the board of a school that provides basic and secondary education to almost 2000 pupils and students allows him to have a direct involvement in that domain.
By education, he is an engineer, having graduated in 1986 magna cum laude from the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Catholic University of Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve).
Philippe LAMBERTS has been married to Béatrice VELDEMAN since 1986; they have four children : Anne-Sophie (1988), Olivier (1990), Emmanuelle (1991) and Xavier (1995). He lives in Brussels.
