Isabel Bayrakdarian: "Dle Yaman" (Lament)

Uploaded by: win081
Video Description:
Performed by Isabel Bayrakdarian, a world-renowned Lebanon-born Armenian-Canadian soprano, and The Minassian Duduk Quartet.
"Dle Yaman" was one the thousands of ancient Armenian folksongs collected and preserved by Komitas Vardapet (1869-1935), a composer, musicologist and the founder of modern Armenian classic music. Komitas's life was spared through the intervention of a group of influential friends during the Armenian Genocide in 1915, but he lived to see everyone he loved to die in the Genocide. Komitas had never recovered from the emotional shock. He died in a psychiatric mental institute.
"Dle Yaman" lyric in Armenian:

I would not even comment on this, but your ignorance baffles me. You wouldn't dare look for and listen to the most beautiful Armenian musical piece if you didn't like Armenians. To love this song is to love the culture that gave birth to it!

Your great grandmother is probably secretly Armenian but you've been conditioned to hate Armenians. Yet something from within calls you back to your routs.
Oh ya- secondly-- what century are we living?
In todays day and age- racism is a sign of unsophistication.
I don't think that ... ( 2 months ago by yatagan817)
I don't think that my grandmother or anyone else in my family was Armenien. And Secondly I am not a racist. I just don't like you because you turned upon us on our most desperate moment and commited unspeakable atrocities and ended a centuries old peaceful coexistence. And now you are putting all the blame on us Turks.
My great granfather ... ( 2 months ago by laguys818)
My great granfather was the only survivors of the "deportation" of Armenians in 1915. His family was robbed and killed in front of his own eyes. As my great grandmothers family marched through the Syrian desert- she was saved by a Turkish woman---- but the rest of her family was shot and thrown into a river. My other great grandmother's brother was hung for helping Armenians escape the march. etc... Basically what I'm trying to say is: Tis is not Bullshit. WE are the decedents of the survivors
Why is Turkey ... ( 2 months ago by laguys818)
Why is Turkey paying so much money do deny it? Why is Turkey pumping nationalism into its people? WHY does Turkey enforce a law prohibiting any word against the government? WHY is there a law on "insulting" Turkishness?
Face it- Your government is HIDING something!
The genocide is not a lie- 99.9% of today Armenians are decedents of the survivors.
Turkey is paying so ... ( 2 months ago by yatagan817)
Turkey is paying so much money because we don't have lobby protection our interests, so we have to buy it.
And the reason, why Turkey is "pumping" nationalism into Turks ist to keep them from becoming islamists. When Atatürk founded Turkey he knew that he had to infuse Turks with Nationalism in order to diminisch the Influence of Religion/Islam to creat a modern nation state. The law against insulting Turkishness is part of this. This has nothing to do with you Armeniens.
And I'm not denying ... ( 2 months ago by yatagan817)
And I'm not denying that many Armeniens died during the deportations, due to starvation and also massacres, what I'm denyin is that there was an intention to exterminate the Armeniens and that the massacres were planned and ordered by the government rather than kurdish bandits who were not under ottoman control at that time and who were competing for the same area with Armeniens for several hundered years.
arkadas, I don't ... ( 2 months ago by laguys818)
arkadas, I don't want to fight. All I can tell you is to look into sources and research outside of what the Turkish government has told you. If you want true facts about what really happened then you need to research both sides of the story. Never have full trust in ones government.
I'm not looking for ... ( 2 months ago by yatagan817)
I'm not looking for fight either. And I'll do the research beyond turkish sources on this matter as soon as I've got a litle time. And I hope you'll do the same.
And for what it's worth, I'm sorry for your families loss!

Beautiful! Wish this was available in a proper mastered audio, I'd love to own this.
And Yetagan, I'm just an Anglo Aussie, but I've studied enough M.E history to know (because I'm outside the propaganda) to know that Turkey's denial of the Armenian genocide is one of the saddest brainwashings of modern history. I know and love many Turks, but they are scholars who can separate their patriotism from what they know is deeply wrong: the propaganda of their government.
