i cried when i first heard this song at the age of 3. not only does it remind you of war, it also tells a compelling story of friendship. its sad when a three year old can pick up on this kind of tone.

This is my absolute favorite song by Billy Joel, so well done and gives me goosebumps (and usually makes me bawl). I can't imagine the hellish conditions that these men endured, and not all came home alive. Kennoetzel, RIGHT ON BROTHER!!! I completely agree with your post!!!!! The words and music are doing just what the record is about. Evoking war that is next to criminal and what to do about it. Yes it is good music but it has not a light-hearted subject. If you find yourself on a line somewhere about to get killed at any moment you'll be asking for a whole lot of justice.
