Dinah's show was one of the most popular at that time. She decided that she wanted to bring some great jazz musicians on. How often do you think that these jazzers had an opportunity to get such national exposure? I'd bet that she had to lobby pretty hard with her producers to pull this one off. My hat is off to her.

As long as you aren't bitter or anything. Comparing Billie Holiday to Dinah Shore is like comparing Thai food to Shepherd's pie. Artists DID have a hard time getting real jazz on their shows and Dinah did a hip thing, despite her whitebread image.

Dinah deserves her props, yes, but there is another truth. And too often that other truth is obscured by over inflated appreciation for a small, though meaningful, act. Ruby Dee once said: "I don't feel I get an award for something I was supposed to do." Let's put things in context. Dinah DID cover Billy and made bucks for it. As did so many singers of that era. She was right to credit her source. Let's not forget those bad old ways. and end up with more "Dreamgirls" stories.

Right before Mulligan takes one, she morphs into some kind of a spastic dance, thankfully the camera goes to Mulligan, but when he finishes, there she is, TWISTING! You know I have respect for these musicians, but soem of you fans are so coarse. Musicians don't belittle other musicians. You "critics" are pathetic.
