the pontiac version has been all tarted up with fake air intakes, and a different grille. i spose its probably more popular in america that way but i still prefer the more minimalist holden body.

Say what you want about it being Aussie (GM never tried to hide that) but it did one thing that the Monaro couldn't.
After GM announced the GTO was coming back, Ford re-styled the Mustang, Dodge brought back the Hemi (at least in their cars, I think they put it in the Rams before or shortly after the GTO was announced)and the Charger, and a few others came back (the Mercury Marauder, the new style of the Camaro, ect.)
Once again, the GTO started the muscle car craze.

I didn't really say it was all good that the muscle cars were back...

furthermore, if you think the monaro is a no-name, i think you should check out some of its history.. check out the early monaro's.

uhhh, over here most things would blow away anything with 6.0lt...
poor/cheaply designed cars with oversized engines dont really perform that well other than acceleration.....
just about any car ever made by holden that is a 'muscle car' would beat your idea of a 'muscle car' on a track or road rally. you might JUST have a chance on a 1/4 mile.
even the little XU-1 Torana (6cyl) would flog the arse off your 6.0ltrs.

and they built them in V6's coz thats what the people want..
they'd rather spend 50$ a week on fuel than $100...
its also more expensive for registration on V8's.
also more expensive for insurance.
the costs add up, and its way cheaper on the pocket.
oh, and you forgot that they is a SUPERCHARGED V6... not some pissy little updated buick truck motor that was designed in the 1950's like your 6's.
