I'd have to disagree, I actually think this was a perfect way to introduce the new show. They were trying to revive Star Trek, so why not start with a completely new intro?
It's too bad the show didn't make it. I heard it was actually pretty good (never could get around to watching it when it was on).

There has been a Star Trek series on TV continuously since 1987, TNG,DS9,VOY and ENT not to mention the movies, so after after 20 years I am sure people were sick of Star Trek. Paramount needs to take a breather and come up with something fresh. Possibly Star Trek in the 29th century?

Question:
Can anyone tell me the name of the Astronaut in the Intro wearing the EVA suit and the black & white helmet liner? I'd also like to know the name of the pilot in the dark jump suit who's walking toward the camera with a jet aircraft in the background? I realize they might be actors, but they and the others pictured in the Intro seem historically authentic to me?
If not... any ideas where I might be able to get the info would be very much appreciated!

The astronaut with the black & white helmet liner is Alan Shepard, the pilot is Chuck Yeager, he used that jet aircraft to break the sound barrier. I don't know who the astronaut wearing the EVA suit might be, though.

And it as the Enterprise theme? perfect! Enterprise is the "First" startrek, even though it came out last, it is placed Earliest. Infact Archers Dad worked with Cochrane. at this point, Traveling at warp 5 and exploring space even farther was a completely new concept and idea.
P.S. the show was *AWESOME*!

Enterprise is entertainment, good entertainment. The people who knock shows because they are too modern and the like are usually people who failed at media studies or some such.
I loved it simply for its entertainment value!!

rocket man by elton john would have been a better choice if you have to have a rock/pop theme for star treck

the Klingdom were compared many times with the Nazis then Russians, the "sneaky" cousins of the Vulcans were named "russians" and "chinese" as well...
