Wired CES 2008: Casio EX-F1

Uploaded by: wired
Video Description:
Wired's Chris Hardwick views Casio's new EX-F1. It takes high res photos, can shoot video at 1200 frames per second in SD, 60 frames per second in HD and allows you to view your clips in slow motion. If you're a photographer, this camera is seriously your bitch!

Check out the Casio website and look for the EX-F1, they have quite a few videos showing off the 1200 fps. HOWEVER all of that speed comes at a huge cost. The maximum resolution of the 1200fps video is only 336x96. Kind of disappointing if you ask me. You can however record 300FPS @ 512x384 which is fairly respectable from a camera costing under a grand.

Oh I agree! But my post was more a response to everscamp as well as a general informational post. The camera is also only 6MP. While 6MP can look mighty impressive with the correct lens and circuitry backing it up I am afraid that the current market won't look much past the 6MP part. I'm seriously considering this camera as I've been looking for a high speed camera for some slow motion shots.

Agreed, but for a grand I'd like to see at least 8mp. So I feel that you are sacrificing some MP for the ability to record video at 1200FPS. Seems to be a feature that has brought about a lot of buzz so I wonder if Casio didn't put that feature in as the main eye catcher and then backed it up with a good quality 6MP digital camera. There would be no reason to buy this over other similarly priced digital cameras (Canon EOS or Nikon D80) unless you wanted that high speed video capture feature.

The sensor is made by Sony and as far as I know, it doesn't allow sizes bigger than 6MP (yet).

After it releases and I see the actual street price I may consider getting one. I am trying to create a collection of homemade videos showing different computer parts being destroyed in various methods. Being able to capture it in 300-1200FPS will surely make for some excellent videos. I've already got a couple on here under my account. My goal is to create a website dedicated to getting back at technology and to get a good laugh out of it.

I'd use the 300fps or 600fps mode for capturing the destruction in slow mo. Check out my video "Dry Ice Bomb vs. Laptop", sure would be awesome to watch that in slow mo.
