I've found that the ... ( 2 months ago by selatik1)
I've found that the Weston A. Price foundation addresses the subject of nutrition based on sound, real-world practices of traditional & hunter-gatherer societies from around the world, & supports these long-standing traditions with the latest clearly-written & accurate scientific information. To hard-core vegans, however, the information on the WestonAPrice(.)org website will be interpreted as sacrilege. But for those who are still riding the fence & still open, u can take a look. Best of luck!

This is awesome. I was raised as a vegetarian, and am now a vegan, and have never felt better. Good for these parents for raising their children so healthily!

You can get A and D ... ( 1 month ago by dogsarebetter)
You can get A and D from spinach, carrots, and beans. You obviously didn't research before going vegan.
no, dogsarebetter, ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
no, dogsarebetter, it is YOU who might want to research a little more. Plant foods --including vegetables -- contain NO vitamin A or significant D -- only animal fats do.
Carotenes or carotenoids found in plant foods are not the same as vitamin A.
Under optimal conditions, humans convert carotenes to vitamin A in the upper intestinal tract by the action of bile salts and fat-splitting enzymes.
Of all the ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
Of all the carotenoids, beta-carotene is most easily converted to vitamin A. Early studies indicated an equivalency of 4:1 of beta-carotene to retinol. In other words, four units of beta-carotene were needed to produce one unit of vitamin A. This ratio was later revised to 6:1 and recent research suggests an even higher ratio.1 This means that you have to eat an awful lot of vegetables and fruits to obtain even the daily minimal requirements of vitamin A, assuming optimal conversion.
the transformation ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
the transformation of carotene to retinol is rarely optimal. Diabetics & those with poor thyroid function -- half the adult US population -- can't make the conversion. Children make the conversion very poorly & infants not at all —they must obtain their precious stores of vitamin A from animal fats —— yet the low-fat diet is often recommended for children.
Strenuous physical ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
Strenuous physical exercise, excessive consumption of alcohol, excessive consumption of iron (especially from "fortified" white flour and breakfast cereal), use of a number of popular drugs, excessive consumption of polyunsaturated fatty acids, zinc deficiency and even cold weather can hinder the conversion of carotenes to vitamin A, as does the lowfat diet.
Carotenes are ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
Carotenes are converted by the action of bile salts, & very little bile reaches the intestine when a meal is low in fat. Adding butter to vegetables & adding cream to vegetable soup is wise, because butterfat stimulates the secretion of bile needed to convert carotenes from vegetables into vitamin A, while supplying very easily absorbed true vitamin A.
Polyunsaturated oils also stimulate the secretion of bile salts but can cause rapid destruction of carotene unless antioxidants are present.
It is very unwise, ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
It is very unwise, therefore, to depend on plant sources for vitamin A. This vital nutrient is needed for the growth and repair of body tissues; it helps protect mucous membranes of the mouth, nose, throat and lungs; it prompts the secretion of gastric juices necessary for proper digestion of protein; it helps to build strong bones and teeth and rich blood; it is essential for good eyesight; it aids in the production of RNA; and contributes to the health of the immune system.
Vitamin-A ... ( 1 month ago by selatik1)
Vitamin-A deficiency in pregnant mothers results in babies with eye defects, displaced kidneys, harelip, cleft palate & abnormalities of the heart. Vit. A stores are rapidly depleted during exercise, fever & stress. Even those who efficiently convert carotenes to vitamin A cannot quickly & adequately replenish vitamin A stores from plant foods.
Parents who are raising their children vegan may wish to look beyond the persuasively written yet highly innacurate advice coming from vegan writers.

ratgirl "I didn't say anything about it being natural or healthy" EXACTLY! Yet that's the basis of the reasons for not consuming animals, if u listen to some of the comments.
"why else would you bring it up?" What else matters? If u don't care about health or natural living then u won't care about being vegan & u have no cause, you're just making noise. The video is about rational reasons for vegan, including case reports about decreased sickness. Your response to anything relevant in the clip?

sorry I offended. I am open minded and listen to new ideas even though these ideas aren't new. I do my part to help the animals by boycotting factory farms.
I must say I have reasons to believe that meat eating has benefits to a person's health and that it is much harder to maintain healthy while being a vegan. I wouldn't suggest it to the average person seeing as most don't even know how to stay healthy to begin with, treading in dangerous water is not a good idea.

im sorry i categorized you as just another angry
blogger trying to incite you tube violence. your right about nutritional ignorance in America, I blame are school's poor lunches and clever marketing. the reason it is hard and can be dangerous to being a vegan is because the American diet is completly centered around meat and there is a lack of information "out there" that people have come across in there daily carousing. all you need to do is take your B12 and omega 3's eat a balance diet

I believe very strongly that people in the future will look back on us and wonder what we were thinking just as we judge people from the past for their mistakes. right now millions and millions of animals in our country are sick and dying trapped in animal hell.we kill over 10 billion animals for a pop. of 300 million. if there was a law tomorrow that banned factory farming people would soon riot. the price of meat and dairy would skyrocket out of reach for your average joe six pack to purchase.

it is not possible to feed America on a meat based diet using so-called "happy meat", there isnt enough land available for the methods of traditional farms of yesterday. the reason the animals arent taking care of, the reason the animals are pumped up with antibiotics and steroids in factory farms is...money. they dont care about feeding america... thats bullshit. there making people sick with their product and they know it. why do they grow animals like plants because they are making a killing

its harder to screw up than a meat eating diet where you could catch and number of food born illnesses from meat.

I do not know what "selatik1" did wrong, but by children and I are at a healthy weight, we do not feel too weak to exercise, and my children score above average on all academic tests. My own brain cells seem to work just fine, too, since my university studies are going extremely well. As long as I do not see any negative signs in my children or myself, I will continue our vegan diet!
