The rules say you cannot gain advantage by leaving the circuit. This has been interpreted by people as "you must not gain a position" and if you do "you must give back the position".
But that's not enough - there is more to the situation than mere position - there is momentum and aceleration. Lewis gave back only the position but maintained an advantage in momentum - he backed off a bit to give back the position, but not enough to negate his momentum advantage!
and hunt is a hero of F1 right?
im sure you respect hunt as you talk of deadly dangerous 60's and 70's, were hunt was at Maclaren.
funny that maybe its there style of winning cos lets face it in many era's in f1 maclaren have made real F1 stars or firsts some of the best and in my opinion THE BEST (Ayrton Senna).

Plus Mansell did'nt have a loose wheele in Monaco 92 it was a suspected puncture. The loose wheel incendent happened at Portugal, he set off from his pitbox and the wheel came off, he rejoined but was DSQ for the crew working on his car outside his pitbox.
If you check out that season Mansell had 5 Retirements & the DSQ so your saying that Senna shouldn't have won in 1991!
Prost in 1993 had 1 retirement & Senna 4

Agreed Nigel was unlucky with MF's. Nevertheless Senna deserved the Title - he won 8 races to Berger's 0 in the same car, whilst the Williams was so good even Patrese won 2 races in it.
And yes undoubtedly Senna was far and away the driver of the year in 93.
If "You win and lose as a team" - why have a driver's championshp at all?
Heikki wouldn't have won a race this year if Massa didn't blow his engine.
Like i said before to another 'hater' you can rip apart any F1 season and argue why they shouldn't have won.
Like Football, you can look at the results from that season and say "thats not fair"
Actually you can say that about anything in life.
