Michael Shanks was technically "fired" from SG1.
so when she asks what Daniel was doing while he was ascended, he gets kind of nervous. he was fighting to get his job back. lol

He did leave voluntarily - he was sick of becoming a background character so much and didn't agree with the way the producers were treating his character. Thankfully, due to so many fans being in uproar about this and fighting for daniel jackson to return, the producers were more open to his ideas and he came back :)
