Maynard Ferguson Give It One

Uploaded by: brian740
Video Description:
This was from about 1977. The best trumpet section, IMHO, MF had: Joe Mosello, Stan Mark, Dennis Noday, and Ron Tooley. Dig Peter Erskine on drums..dynamite.

I believe that everyone is titled to their own opinion, but his control of his aumbeschure(sp?) is rediculous. If you listen closley to his bends, vibrato and so forth, he has really mastered the control of not only his range but his lips. he's crazy.

Enjoy Maynard for what he was and not what you think he should have been.

I agree with you. It still tends to have some excitement at a faster speed but i think this version is a little too fast but Maynards still da man. He changed my trumpet playing for the better.

This may not have been Maynard's best era jazzwise, but it's easily his best era for a band!!!!!!!!
He reminds me of ... ( 1 week ago by kpl1228)
He reminds me of Eddie Van Halen, in that his impact on his instrument transended the expectations of the purists. Just as all the Clapton and Wes Montgonery guys hated Eddie's guitar "flash," many trumpet purists and instructors (such as mine) hated Maynard's riffs and high notes and dismissed it as smoke and mirrors. They missed the point entirely. As a high school trumpet geek, Maynard pulled me in and kept my interest. His range enticed me, and as a result, it opened the door to all jazz.
