The most important thing if you want to use blender or any other program like it is RAM and CPU when making everything, you can always render over night or while you have dinner if it takes long and clips takes forever to render, but if it lags when using, it's hopeless.

It is very easy to use, but you have to put some effort into learning it. You'll start to make huge progress after the first few days. It may seem daunting at first, but there are many tutorials and friendly people that are sure to help.

For all you noobs out there this ain't camera tricks and it ain't backwards either. This is a different build of blender with a few extra fluid features. I've got this version of blender but it can be hard to get the simulation right sometimes.

I don't think opengl requires a graphics card, but some shaders do. Aside from GLSL, everything Blender needs of opengl can be done through software. Vista should already have opengl support, though it isn't very good since all calls are translated to directx.
